Job Type Description
The Assistant Principal assists the Principal in the performance of the various leadership responsibilities, which are attendant to the successful administration of the school. The specific duties are assigned by the Principal.


Salary Schedule
Berkeley County Schools Teacher Pay Scale based upon degree level and years of experience plus appropriate school assistant principal index.

Specialized Skills
Masters Degree, West Virginia administrative certificate, three years successful teaching experience.

  • Leadership in absence: Assuming full responsibility for school operations when the principal is unavailable.

  • Resource management: Assisting with distribution and inventory of textbooks and instructional materials.

  • Reporting support: Contributing to the preparation and submission of school reports.

  • Coordinating support services: Helping oversee essential services like transportation, special education, pupil support, health/social programs, and federal initiatives.

  • Facilitating school operations: Supporting student relations, professional development, community engagement, discipline, attendance, and the instructional program.

  • Recommending resources: Assisting in selecting equipment and instructional supplies that enhance learning.

  • Informing curriculum decisions: Conducting needs assessments and advising on curricular improvements and innovations.

  • Scheduling assistance: Helping organize classes, extracurricular programs, and student schedules.

  • Supporting discipline systems: Aiding in maintaining discipline and designing innovative, restorative processes for staff and students.

  • Monitoring accountability: Assisting in teacher accountability measures, such as lesson plan reviews, grade monitoring, student progress recording, and homeroom register audits.

  • Overseeing student placement: Assisting with student enrollment, orientation, and placement initiatives.

  • Managing events: Helping coordinate county-level activities, contests, competitions, and school-sponsored events held offsite or outside typical school hours.

  • Tracking data: Assisting in monitoring student metrics—attendance, progress, dropout rates—and other relevant statistics.

  • Supporting instructional leadership: Participating in supervision, evaluation, and implementation of instructional programs.

  • Facilitating staff development: Helping plan and lead professional learning, including faculty meetings and instructional training events.

  • Managing substitutes: Arranging for substitute teachers, providing orientation, and evaluating performance.
