Summary:
The Assistant Service Manager strives to run an efficient and profitable service department through productive staffing, customer retention, cost controls, achievement of objectives, and maintenance of all service records. Ensures that the daily inventory of technician's time is consistently sold to service customers.
Essential Duties:
- Assists in hiring, training, motivating, counseling, and monitoring the performance of all service department staff.
- Assists in forecasting goals and objectives for the department and strives to meet them.
- Assists in preparing and administering an annual operating budget for the service department.
- Attends managers meetings as needed or requested.
- Strives for harmony and teamwork within the department and with all other departments.
- Assists in developing and implementing a marketing plan which promotes new and repeat business.
- Understands, keeps abreast of, and complies with federal, state, and local regulations that affect service operations, such as hazardous waste disposal, OSHA Right-to-Know, etc.
- Understands and ensures compliance with manufacturer warranty and policy procedures.
- Assists in developing, maintaining, and monitoring a formal customer service index (CSI).
- Monitor the counter and dispatch work fairly and evenly to technicians.
- Ensure waiting customers are brought into the shop in a timely manner.
- Notify the Service Manager directly of any technician concerns immediately so they can be addressed accordingly.
- Communicate any known customer concerns and decisions for policy adjustments with the Service Manager so a proper decision can be made.
- Assist with monitoring any equipment and tools in the shop needing repair, replacement or purchase and communicate with the Service Manager so proper action can be taken.
- Monitor the usage of emissions stickers daily and file proper paperwork to prepare for an audit.
- Assist with monthly safety department requirements in the shop.
- Assist with making sure technicians complete required training to ensure minimum requirements are met.
- Perform road tests with customers to demonstrate difficulty duplicating concerns and pass the information on to the technician performing the repair.
- Communicate daily with the parts manager to determine what parts have arrived to complete repairs to vehicles on the lot.
- Assist Technicians with any “problem” vehicles. Ensure STAR cases are opened and updated for warranty purposes. Act as a liaison between the Technician and Factory Tech Advisor. Keep Service Manager up to date on progression.
- Observe workflow in the shop to ensure technicians are on task and working efficiently, not standing around waiting on parts or holding excessive conversations.
Promotes good working relationships between management and other team members. - All other duties as assigned.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
- 3-5 years of dealership experience.
- GM experience preferred.
- Valid Driver's License
- Successful completion of pre-employment background checks and drug screening
