The Kids and Teens Program Principal provides leadership and operational oversight for Bergen Community College’s Summer Learning Academy and Summer High School Program. This role ensures high-quality academic and enrichment experiences for youth participants, supports instructional and seasonal staff, and collaborates with CEWD leadership to implement programs aligned with New Jersey standards and Bergen’s educational mission. The Principal oversees daily operations, student engagement, parent communication, and safety protocols while fostering a positive and inclusive summer learning environment.
POSITION SUMMARY
Responsibilities included but are not limited to:
- Provide strong leadership for all summer instructional and support staff.
- Foster a positive, collaborative work environment that supports high-quality teaching and learning.
- Oversee daily program operations, including scheduling, room assignments, transitions, and logistics for both the Summer Learning Academy and Summer High School Program.
- Collaborate with subject matter experts and instructors to design and refine age-appropriate curricula.
- Ensure curriculum aligns with New Jersey educational standards and CEWD program goals.
- Support instructors with classroom management guidance and instructional best practices.
- Promote an inclusive, engaging learning environment for participants across all age groups.
- Monitor student participation and behavior; implement supportive strategies to promote personal growth and a positive program culture.
- Serve as a primary point of contact for parents/guardians during the program.
- Provide timely updates on student progress, program activities, and any concerns that arise.
- Prioritize participant safety across all programs and locations.
- Implement and enforce College, CEWD, and Kids and Teens Program safety protocols and emergency procedures.
- Ensure staff are trained on required safety policies.
- Train, mentor, and support instructors, counselors, and seasonal staff.
- Provide ongoing feedback and ensure staff understand program expectations.
- Assess program effectiveness throughout the summer.
- Gather feedback from students, parents, and staff to support program refinement.
- Recommend enhancements for future summer operations.
- Collaborate with High School Program staff to prepare and distribute mid-session progress reports.
- Ensure final transcripts are completed, sent to approved schools, and uploaded to the Elevate student portal in a timely manner.
- Work within established program budgets.
- Ensure effective allocation of instructional materials, staffing resources, and operational supplies.
SPECIAL SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Education, Educational Leadership, or a related field required.
Experience: Previous experience in educational administration, youth programming, or summer camp leadership preferred. Experience managing instructional staff or leading large-scale youth programs is highly desirable.
Certifications (Preferred):
- CPR and First Aid Certification
- New Jersey Educator Certification
- New Jersey Principal Certification

- Leadership: Strong team leadership skills with the ability to motivate and support seasonal staff.
- Communication: Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills with youth, parents, and staff.
- Program Management: Ability to coordinate complex scheduling, logistics, and daily operations.
- Instructional Knowledge: Understanding of curriculum development and age-appropriate educational practices.
- Youth Development: Knowledge of child and adolescent development and best practices in enrichment programming.
- Problem-Solving: Ability to respond effectively to challenges in a dynamic summer environment.
SALARY AND BENEFITS
