Security Systems Coordinator

Description

Reporting to the Public Safety Team Leader, the Security Systems Coordinator provides continuous oversight, maintenance, and support of security systems technology. The Coordinator is responsible for the upkeep and functionality of emergency callboxes, security cameras and camera footage storage, electronic access controls, burglar alarm panels, and other security technology to support Public Safety. This position is responsible for recommending new technology, ensuring all equipment functions properly, managing projects with security and technology vendors, and making recommendations to the Director of Public Safety for new security systems. The Coordinator is security sensitive and may be subject to psychological evaluation and random drug testing.

Your Key Responsibilities

Access Control (20%)

• Identify threats to security and safety through ongoing inspections of grounds, and facilities.
• Troubleshoot security systems and perform preventative maintenance when possible.
• Administer hardware and software management for access control, alarm and CCTV systems.
• Consult with perspective users concerning requirements for access control, alarm and video surveillance systems.
• Develop preliminary scope of security systems in collaboration with stakeholders and the Public Safety Director.
• Report to campus after-hours and outside of college business hours when necessary to ensure building security systems are functional or coordinate an immediate vendor response.
• Coordinate, schedule vendors, and facilitate various phases of security projects.
  
  

Physical Key Management (30%)

• Oversee the college’s physical key inventory and administration and assignment of physical keys to campus.
• Receive, assign, and complete work orders for door hardware and ADA for electronic access control systems.
• Conduct audits of physical keys for residence halls and on a random, rotational basis for campus.
  
  

Administration of Security Systems (50%)

• Review security and incident reports as needed and make recommendations for changes as needed.
• Conduct investigatory review of camera footage and audit logs in security systems.
• Participate in developing and delivering fire safety training programs and perform monitoring of emergency fire egress and equipment in residence halls and other campus buildings.
• Research and remain current on industry standards.
• Work in partnership with Information Technology and Facilities Management to ensure systems remain functional and meet or exceed college standards.
• Recruit, hire, onboard, train, supervise, and evaluate the Security System Technician Assistant.
  
  

What You'll Bring

Education required to ensure success in this position:

• Bachelor’s degree preferred, or equivalent experience.
  
  

Experience required to ensure success in this position:

• 2-3 years of experience required, preferably in Information Technology (IT), Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Public Safety, Security, Law Enforcement, or related field.
• Knowledge of mechanical and electronic locking systems, alarm and security camera systems, including hardware and software.
• Significant knowledge of IT server systems, IP-based cameras, and electronic access control systems.
  
  

Special skills, knowledge and abilities:

• Knowledge of maintenance and problem resolution techniques.
• Knowledge of security camera equipment and recording hardware and software.
• Knowledge of alarm system equipment.
• Knowledge of access control hardware and software.
• Knowledge of mechanical lock systems.
• Knowledge of server management and maintenance.
• Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
• Ability to make appropriate judgments in technical decisions.
• Ability to establish effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students, and external contractors.
• Possesses superior judgment and can uphold confidentiality.
• Ability to perform under stressful conditions with little margin for error and complete duties without close supervision, within defined policy and procedures.
  
  

License, certification, or registration necessary:

• Valid Kentucky Operator’s License.
• Ability to obtain Physical Security Professional certification through American Society of Industrial Security.
  
  

Physical requirements:

• Must be able to communicate effectively through use of telephone, radio, and computer and can monitor auditory and visual data provided by alarms and cameras.
• Physical mobility is necessary.
• Requires crouching, reaching, bending, and lifting 50 pounds.
• The position can be physically demanding and requires the incumbent to respond to calls for assistance quickly in all types of weather, on foot or by vehicle, around the clock and under the duress of emergency situations.

• Work environment encompasses the entire campus including out-of-doors.
