The BereaCorps Student Leadership Development Associate will serve as an advisor, coach, mentor, and guide to student leaders across signature programs in Campus Life, including but not limited to, the Student Government Association (SGA), Campus Activities Board (CAB), and Voter Empowerment Political Awareness Coalition (VEPAC).

The Associate will provide one-on-one coaching and advising to the SGA Executive President and Vice President, CAB Chair, and VEPAC Chair, and support their leadership development as elected and appointed student officers. The Associate will also provide group advising to their assigned student leadership groups, including committees, sub-committees, taskforces, and workgroups, as assigned by their direct supervisor. This position will provide oversight, accountability, and support to ensure assigned student leaders complete their daily, weekly, quarterly, and semester responsibilities. The Associate will facilitate annual vision setting, goal setting, and program evaluations. This position will assist in the coordination of programs, events, and functions, and provide oversight and accountability to college policies and procedures that govern space reservations, budget requests and college expenses, and marketing. The Associate will serve as a staff advisor and/or chaperone for evening, weekend, and off-campus programs, events, functions, and trips, including conferences, workshops, and training sessions.

The Associate will develop, facilitate, and sustain meaningful relationships between assigned student leaders and College administrators, faculty, and staff that promote collaboration, teamwork, and shared governance. This position will serve on the leadership team for Campus Life and work collaboratively with full-time, part-time, and volunteer professionals, and will serve as a secondary labor supervisor to Berea College Work-Learning-Service student paraprofessionals under the direction and supervision of a primary Faculty/Staff labor supervisor.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Advise, coach, and mentor the Executive President and Vice President of the Student Government Association (SGA), and Chairs of the Campus Activities Board (CAB) and Voter Empowerment Political Awareness Coalition (VEPAC).
  • Serve as a secondary advisor to the SGA (including the Student Senate and Board of Residences), CAB, and VEPAC, under the direction and supervision of a primary Faculty/Staff labor supervisor.
  • Oversee, facilitate, and support the planning, facilitation, implementation, and evaluation of programs, events, and functions of these student-led groups.
  • Contribute to the planning, facilitating, implementation, and evaluation of Campus Life signature programs, including but not limited to Welcome Week, Bluechella, Homecoming, Mountain Day, All Peoples of the Earth Day, among others.
  • Serve as a representative of Campus Life on division and college-wide committees, taskforces, and workgroups, as assigned by the direct supervisor or divisional Associate/Vice President.
  • In support of Berea College’s Great Commitments, this position requires student supervision. The fourth Great Commitment is to promote learning and serving in the community through the student labor program, honoring the dignity and utility of all work, mental and manual, and taking pride in work well done. Student Supervision includes scheduling, assigning, and approving work performed. Developing students' common workplace acumen and giving them tangible work experience is an expected outcome. What You'll Bring

Education required to ensure success in this position:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from Berea College with a graduation date in Calendar Year 2025 or May 2026.
  • Major in Communications, Education, Peace and Social Justice, Political Science, or a related field preferred.

Experience required to ensure success in this position:

  • Student leadership experience, preferably in Student Government, a Registered Student Organization, Programming Board, or a College Center.
  • Advising, coaching, directing, mentoring, teaching, or management role.
  • Planning, coordinating, implementing, and evaluating on-campus programs, functions, and events.
  • Critical thinking, conflict resolution, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience working with the public and providing excellent customer service.
  • The ability to work independently and on a team, and able to take initiative and achieve results.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, public speaking, and group presentation experience.
  • Adaptability and flexibility.

Special skills, knowledge and abilities:

  • Desire to facilitate student leadership development to new and returning students.
  • Superior interpersonal skills
  • Highly organized, self-motivated, and productive.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite programs and online learning and productivity platforms.

Physical requirements:

  • Ability to use a computer for extended periods.
  • Ability to navigate campus, buildings, and grounds.
  • Ability to drive a motor vehicle and a valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and carry between 20-40 pounds.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time.

Environmental conditions:

  • Professional office environment with interruptions and noise due to frequent visitors.
  • Occasional nights and weekends are required for student leadership programs, events, and functions.
  • Occasional travel is required for off-campus events, meetings, and conferences.
  • A flexible work schedule is permitted with approval from direct supervisor or Divisional leadership.
  • Ability to traverse campus to meet with students, faculty, staff, alumni, community members, and guests.

Ability to operate the following vehicles or equipment:

  • Computer
  • Standard office equipment
  • Motor vehicle and/or a golf cart

Supplemental Information

BereaCorps positions are grant-funded, one-year contract positions from June 1, 2026 – May 31, 2027, with the possibility of a one-year extension. This position is only available to 2025 and May 2026 Berea College graduates that have completed all of their coursework by May 2026.
