Role Overview
BEPC is seeking a highly motivated Scientist II to support BioSpecimen Acquisition and Management activities within a Cell and Molecular Biology laboratory environment. This role supports Culture Collection and Panel Production activities, providing biological materials and solutions that enable clinical research and innovation.
The ideal candidate has strong hands-on experience with cell culture, molecular biology techniques, and biorepository or biospecimen management, and thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced laboratory setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute assigned project activities with minimal supervision using established procedures and scientific expertise
- Manipulate human cell lines, microorganisms, and other biological materials to support culture collection and panel production
- Perform recombinant DNA techniques, including cloning, restriction digestion, ligation, and bacterial transformation
- Conduct routine and specialized cell culture procedures using adherent and suspension immortalized cell lines
- Analyze plasmid DNA and RNA for purity, concentration, and quality
- Perform nucleic acid extractions (DNA/RNA), quantification, amplification, and characterization
- Recommend solutions to resolve experimental or procedural issues
- Plan and execute work independently; may act as a project lead
- Analyze alternative approaches to solve problems of moderate scope and complexity
- Ensure accuracy, quality, and timeliness of project deliverables
- Summarize experimental results and communicate findings through written reports and presentations
- Maintain accurate electronic records using validated systems (eLN/LIMS)
- Perform work in compliance with internal safety guidelines and external regulatory requirements (e.g., OSHA)
- Participate in laboratory maintenance, safety activities, ISO, and QSR implementation
- Collaborate cross-functionally with multiple stakeholders across the organization
Qualifications Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Molecular Biology, Cellular Biology, Microbiology, or related field with 5 years of relevant experience,
OR Master’s degree in a related field with 5 years of relevant experience
- Experience with aseptic techniques and bacterial and/or mammalian cell culture
- Hands-on experience with cloning techniques, including plasmid design, restriction digestion, ligation, and transformation
- Experience performing DNA/RNA extraction, quantification, amplification, and characterization
- Proficiency with laboratory tools such as Qubit, Nanodrop, gel electrophoresis, and PCR instruments
- Ability to work daily in a BSL-2 laboratory environment, including with infectious or engineered biological materials
- Understanding of good laboratory practices, data integrity, and documentation standards
- Ability to plan work independently and determine next steps within project scope
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google applications
Preferred:
- Experience with LIMS software, electronic lab notebooks (eLN), and JMP
- Client-facing or internal customer support experience
- Experience working with diverse biological sample types (blood, serum, urine, stool)
