Rockwell Automation Engineer

Location: Lenexa, KS – On-Site

Employment Type: 12-Month Contract

Pay Rate: $42.00–$45.00/hour, based on experience

Schedule: Monday–Friday | First Shift | Flexible Schedule

Role Overview

BEPC is seeking an experienced Rockwell Automation Engineer to support a client’s manufacturing operations in Lenexa, Kansas. This position is ideal for an automation professional with strong hands-on experience with Rockwell Automation / Allen-Bradley PLC systems, industrial controls, HMI/SCADA platforms, and manufacturing equipment.

In this role, you will maintain and troubleshoot critical control systems, support automation projects from concept through startup, and collaborate with engineering and operations teams to improve equipment reliability, production efficiency, quality, and safety.

Important: This is a fully on-site position, and interviews will be conducted on-site in Lenexa, KS.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain and troubleshoot PLC programs using Rockwell Automation / Allen-Bradley platforms, including ControlLogix, CompactLogix, and MicroLogix.
• Troubleshoot HMI and SCADA systems, including FactoryTalk View SE/ME, Ignition, or comparable platforms.
• Support the complete lifecycle of automation projects, from requirements and concept development through installation, startup, and handover to operations.
• Diagnose and resolve control system faults, instrumentation issues, and electrical failures to minimize production downtime.
• Develop and maintain P&IDs, electrical schematics, control narratives, programming standards, and other technical documentation.
• Partner with process engineers to implement control strategies that improve throughput, product quality, equipment performance, and safety.
• Conduct routine control-system audits to identify risks and recommend preventive maintenance and system improvements.
• Provide on-site and on-call technical support for critical production systems as required.
• Train and mentor maintenance technicians and operators on control-system operation and basic troubleshooting.
• Ensure automation and electrical systems comply with applicable safety standards, including NEC/NFPA 70, NFPA 79, OSHA requirements, and internal engineering guidelines.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a closely related engineering discipline.
• 3–5 years of hands-on industrial controls and automation engineering experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Strong hands-on experience with Rockwell Automation / Allen-Bradley PLCs, particularly ControlLogix and CompactLogix.
• Proficiency with Studio 5000 / RSLogix 5000 programming software.
• Experience configuring and troubleshooting HMI/SCADA systems such as FactoryTalk View, Wonderware, Ignition, or similar platforms.
• Strong understanding of industrial networking protocols, including EtherNet/IP, DeviceNet, Profibus, and Modbus.
• Working knowledge of instrumentation, sensors, variable frequency drives (VFDs), servo systems, and motor control centers (MCCs).
• Familiarity with NEC/NFPA 70, NFPA 79, OSHA 29 CFR 1910, and related industrial safety requirements.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, P&IDs, and mechanical drawings.
• Strong analytical and systematic troubleshooting skills.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

• Rockwell Automation Certified Logix Designer (CLD) certification.
• Experience with batch control systems and ISA-88 standards.
• Experience with Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) and ERP integrations, including SAP.
• Knowledge of industrial robot programming and integration involving FANUC, ABB, KUKA, or similar systems.
• Experience with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement methodologies.
• Previous automation experience in food and beverage, chemicals, packaging, life sciences, or similar process/manufacturing industries.
• Familiarity with industrial control system (ICS) cybersecurity best practices.

Candidates should be comfortable working in a manufacturing environment that may include exposure to machinery, noise, and industrial chemicals. The position may occasionally require standing or working at elevated heights, on-call support, and off-shift or weekend availability during critical projects or unplanned downtime.

Some travel may also be required for vendor visits, training, or project support at other locations, estimated at approximately 10%.
