Bensalem Township School District is anticipating to hire a Physical Therapist.
POSITION TITLE: Physical Therapist (School-Based) REPORTS TO: Assistant to the Superintendent of Special Services
POSITION TITLE: Physical Therapist (School-Based) REPORTS TO: Assistant to the Superintendent of Special Services
POSITION GOAL: The Physical Therapist (PT) provides evaluation, intervention, and consultation services to students whose physical disabilities impact their ability to access and participate in the educational environment. Services are delivered in accordance with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and applicable federal and state regulations.
GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Strong knowledge of pediatric physical therapy and motor development.
2. Excellent collaboration and communication skills.
3. Ability to manage a caseload across multiple school buildings.
4. Strong documentation and organizational skills.
5. Ability to assist students with transfers and mobility.
6. Ability to lift, position, or support students when necessary.
7. Ability to demonstrate therapeutic activities and exercises.
SPECIFIC QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) or Master’s Degree in Physical Therapy from an accredited program.
2. Current Pennsylvania license to practice Physical Therapy.
3. Experience working with pediatric populations preferred.
4. Experience in school-based or educational settings preferred.
5. Knowledge of special education procedures and IEP processes preferred.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Conduct physical therapy evaluations for students referred for services.
2. Assess gross motor development, mobility, posture, strength, balance, coordination, and functional movement.
3. Administer standardized and observational assessments related to school participation.
4. Prepare written evaluation reports and participate in multidisciplinary team meetings.
5. Develop measurable physical therapy goals aligned with student educational needs.
6. Provide direct and consultative therapy services as specified in the student’s IEP.
7. Support student mobility, balance, coordination, strength, and endurance.
8. Collaborate with teachers, occupational therapists, speech-language pathologists, school psychologists, nurses, and administrators.
9. Consult with school staff regarding safe mobility and positioning strategies.
10. Communicate with parents and caregivers regarding student progress.
11. Maintain accurate service logs, progress notes, and documentation required for compliance.
12. Other duties as assigned.
