GENERAL SUMMARY:
Bennett’s BSPH curriculum combines an interdisciplinary core with concentration pathways and is distinguished by quantitative rigor, applied public health analytics, and a mission-driven emphasis on health equity and the health of Black women. The program includes coursework in epidemiology, health policy and systems, social determinants of health, community or population health, program planning and evaluation, practicum, capstone, and concentration areas such as community health and equity, perinatal and child health, mental health advocacy and policy, and epidemiology and disease prevention.
Bennett College invites applications for a full-time faculty appointment in Public Health to serve as Founding Program Director for the Bachelor of Science in Public Health (BSPH). The successful candidate will provide academic leadership for the program, teach core undergraduate public health courses, support curriculum implementation and assessment, advise students, and work collaboratively with adjunct faculty and community partners to build a distinctive program centered on health equity, Black women’s health, and data-informed public health practice. Rank will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The College welcomes applications from candidates prepared for appointment at the assistant or associate professor level.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Provide academic and administrative leadership for the BSPH program, including curriculum implementation, assessment, scheduling, and continuous improvement.
- Teach undergraduate courses in public health, especially within the core curriculum.
- Advise and mentor students, including support for practicum and capstone experiences.
- Coordinate with adjunct faculty to ensure alignment of learning outcomes, course quality, and student experience across the curriculum.
- Build and sustain community partnerships that support practica, interprofessional learning, and career pathways.
- Contribute to accreditation readiness, competency mapping, and CHES-informed curricular development.
- Participate in service to the College, program development, recruitment, and program assessment.
- Attend faculty meetings and College events such as Baccalaureate, Commencement, and convocations; participate in Faculty-Staff Institutes at the beginning of each semester.
- Serve on College committees and participate in shared governance and the general administrative work of the College.
- Participate in recruitment, professional development workshops, and other programming as assigned by the Dean of Faculty or Chief Academic Officer.
- Develop a research program and contribute to the published scientific literature; engage in professional development and maintain awareness of current developments in the field.
- Actively pursue outside funding.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Required:
- DrPH or PhD in public health, epidemiology, community health, health behavior, health education, maternal and child health, health policy, or related area.
- Demonstrated ability to teach undergraduate public health courses effectively; minimum of 1-2 years post-secondary teaching experience.
- Expertise in one or more of the following areas: community health, health policy, epidemiology, health education, program planning and evaluation, health equity, or social determinants of health.
- Evidence of commitment to student mentoring, inclusive pedagogy, and mission-centered education.
- Ability to contribute to program leadership, curriculum development, and assessment.
Preferred:
- Experience with CEPH accreditation, competency mapping, program assessment, or CHES-aligned curriculum development.
- CHES, MCHES, CPH, or other relevant public health credentials.
- Experience in community-engaged scholarship or practice, especially in partnership with local health departments, healthcare systems, nonprofits, or advocacy organizations.
- Demonstrated expertise in Black women’s health, maternal and child health, health disparities, structural determinants of health, reproductive justice, environmental justice, or related equity-centered domains.
- Capacity to support data-informed and quantitative teaching, including epidemiologic analysis, surveillance, GIS, or statistical software.
- Experience supervising internships, practica, service learning, or capstone projects.
- Experience working successfully with diverse students and in an HBCU or similarly mission-driven academic environment.
