Bennett College is a historically Black liberal arts college for women in Greensboro, NC. Bennett College seeks new faculty who can contribute to the development of innovative programs and curricula that prepare students for impactful civic engagement and leadership roles in their personal and professional lives. Prospective biology faculty whose work touches on maternal and child health, health disparities, diversifying STEM/healthcare, public health, and environmental justice are especially encouraged to apply. Bennett College offers the biology major/minor and chemistry minor and is launching majors in public health and health sciences in fall 2026.
 
 
GENERAL SUMMARY:
 
The Assistant Professor of Biology position is a full-time non-tenure-track faculty position. The successful candidate will be prepared to teach courses and the associated labs in at least three of the following areas: general biology, anatomy and physiology, developmental biology, and molecular biology. The teaching load is 12 hours per semester, typically three four-credit courses. Candidates should have teaching and mentoring experience at the post-secondary level; ideal candidates will also have peer-reviewed publications. Candidates should have a record of success in securing outside funding or be able to demonstrate the potential to do so. Ph.D.in biology or a related field is required; doctoral degree should be completed by starting date or within one semester following appointment.
 
 
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Teach biology courses and associated labs; may teach interdisciplinary &/or general education courses; prepare and maintain the labs for their courses.
  • Use innovative teaching methods and technologies to engage students and ensure their success.
  • Use Canvas for course delivery and record-keeping; submit grades and attendance reports in a timely manner.
  • Advise biology majors and minors with a focus on preparation for career entry, professional studies, and/or graduate school.
  • Supervise student research projects and conference presentations; oversee extracurricular professional development activities for students.
  • Build and maintain relationships with graduate programs and employers.
  • Perform shared administrative tasks and record-keeping for the biology program.
  • Attend faculty meetings and College events such as Baccalaureate, Commencement, and convocations; participate in Faculty-Staff Institutes at the beginning of each semester.
  • Serve on College committees and participate in shared governance and the general administrative work of the College.
  • Participate in recruitment, professional development workshops, and other programming as assigned by the Dean of Faculty or Chief Academic Officer.
  • Develop a research program and contribute to the published scientific literature; engage in professional development and maintain awareness of current developments in the field.
  • Actively pursue outside funding.
 
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Knowledge of pedagogical techniques in the biological sciences
  • Ability to use laboratory equipment and software for teaching and research
  • Ability to implement lab safety and maintenance protocols
  • Ability to facilitate student achievement and growth
  • Excellent time management and record keeping skills
  • Ability to teach face-to-face, online, and/or hybrid courses
  • Ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a diverse community
 
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Ph.D. in biology or a related field from an accredited institution
  • Minimum of 1-2 years post-secondary teaching experience.
