Role Overview

As a Senior Substation Project Engineering Manager, you will serve as the technical lead and project delivery owner for complex substation design projects. You will carry deliverable responsibility to the client, oversee project resources and quality, and work in close coordination with the assigned Project Manager to manage scope, schedule, budget, and client engagement across multidisciplinary teams.

What You'll Do

- Lead multi-discipline teams of engineers and technicians on large and complex substation projects

- Manage diverse project portfolios spanning design services and EPC programs

- Oversee design quality, budget, and schedule across multiple disciplines

- Support client interaction, proposals, and business development activities

 

Key Responsibilities

Project Execution:

- Prepare complex engineering deliverables for multiple or large-scale projects

- Conduct research to develop equipment and material recommendations

- Manage data and perform complex engineering calculations

- Develop and manage project budgets, schedules, and quality requirements across multiple disciplines

- Lead larger production teams, coordinate multi-discipline activities, and serve as the responsible charge for assigned projects

- Establish and manage project work plans

 

Client Interface:

- Identify and respond to key client interests and drivers on moderately complex to large projects

- Communicate client concerns to the project team and help develop effective solutions

- Support business development and proposal pursuits

 

Technical Leadership:

- Lead large multi-discipline teams to deliver project goals on time and within budget

- Provide technical leadership for complex substation projects

- Drive innovative solutions to achieve project and client objectives

 

Management:

- Review and mentor lower-level engineering work and assignments

- Responsible for hiring decisions, performance management, and compensation administration for direct reports

 

Minimum Qualifications:

- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (Structural Engineering background may be considered)

- Minimum of 11 years of related work experience

- Experience working on large IOU projects for an engineering consulting firm

- Experience leading multidisciplinary project teams

- Proficiency in both Substation Physical Design and Protection & Control (P&C)

- Project lead experience, including exposure to schedule and budget management

 

Preferred Qualifications:

- P.E. License (strongly preferred)

- Experience managing EPC or design services substation and switchyard projects for investor-owned utilities in the United States

- Strong understanding of overall project lifecycle, layout design and optimization, relay protection & control, civil/structural design, and technical knowledge of major substation equipment

- Excellent communication skills and genuine interest in building and maintaining client relationships

- Advanced knowledge of engineering design principles, applicable design guides, and industry standards
