    JOB DESCRIPTION


    Position: High School Principal – Everest High School

    Reports to: Chief Strategy Officer and/or Designee

    Terms of Employment: Ten (10) Months

    Basic Function:

    Serves as the instructional and operational leader of Everest High School, providing leadership in teaching, learning, and student support. Ensures a supportive, safe, and innovative environment that prepares all students for postsecondary success. Promotes academic excellence, equity, and community engagement in alignment with the District’s mission and strategic goals.

    Qualifications/Skills:


    • Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with General Administrative or Principal Endorsement.
    • Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership, Administration, or a related field is preferred.
    • Minimum of five (5) years of successful teaching and/or administrative experience preferred.
    • Demonstrated leadership in curriculum, instruction, and staff supervision.
    • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
    • Ability to analyze data, manage budgets, and lead collaborative teams.
    • Commitment to continuous improvement, innovation, and student-centered leadership.
    • Background in trauma-informed practices and/or ACEs (Adverse Childhood Experiences) background is preferred.

    Performance Responsibilities:


    Instructional Leadership & School Improvement:

    • Lead the development and implementation of the School Improvement Plan aligned with district and state priorities.
    • Use data-driven decision-making to enhance instruction, interventions, and academic outcomes.
    • Supervise and evaluate certified staff in accordance with the district’s evaluation plan.
    • Plan and deliver professional development that aligns with building goals.
    • Oversee curriculum design, scheduling, and course offerings to support multiple pathways toward graduation using a personalized, integrated project-based learning approach.

    Student Support & Engagement:

    • Oversee registration, scheduling, transcript evaluation, and graduation planning.
    • Collaborate regularly with staff from other high schools, including building administration and the District MTSS Administrator, to review student candidates and make informed recommendations regarding enrollment at Everest.
    • Establish clear expectations for student behavior and maintain consistent discipline practices.
    • Provide social-emotional support and collaborate with student services and community agencies to enhance student well-being.
    • Support students in college, career, and workforce readiness, including FAFSA applications and job placements.
    • Advocate for and support homeless and at-risk students through appropriate resources and documentation.
    • Plan, organize, and lead school ceremonies and extracurricular events, including graduation.

    Staff Supervision & Development:

    • Recruit, interview, and recommend candidates for employment.
    • Orient and support new employees with clear expectations and building procedures.
    • Facilitate regular staff meetings, professional learning, coaching, and team collaboration.
    • Participate in district-level meetings and retreats (Leadership, Secondary Principal, start/end-of-year).

    Building Operations & Safety:

    • Maintain accurate records of attendance, discipline, and performance.
    • Oversee building opening and closing procedures, work orders, and facility maintenance.
    • Ensure compliance with all safety, emergency, and Life/Safety requirements.
    • Coordinate emergency drills in compliance with the Illinois School Code and district policy.
    • Supervise financial and operational processes, including budgets, student fees, and activity funds.
    • Support food service coordination and, when necessary, medication distribution in accordance with district procedures.

    Communication & Community Partnerships:

    • Maintain consistent and proactive communication with students, staff, families, and community stakeholders.
    • Conduct student and parent intake meetings for new enrollees.
    • Collaborate with the Problem Solving Team (PST) to review and admit students into the Everest program.
    • Build strong partnerships with local organizations and agencies to enhance SEL and postsecondary supports.
    • Advocate for Everest’s program and students through community involvement and outreach.

    District-Wide Leadership:

    • Serve on district committees and contribute to shared leadership initiatives.
    • Implement District Board policies, collective bargaining agreements, and administrative procedures.
    • Collaborate with district leaders to align Everest High School’s programs and outcomes with district strategic goals.
    • Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent, Chief Strategy Officer and/or designee.

    Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Board’s policy on the Evaluation of Administrative Personnel.
