CNC Grinding and Tooling Specialist

Role snapshot

• Shifts available:
  • Day: 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM (OT as needed)
  • Night: 6:00 PM – 2:30 AM (OT as needed; shift premium applies)
• Core focus: Set up and operate manual and CNC grinders for precision ID/OD, form, surface, face, angle, traverse, and multi-axis grinding.

What you’ll do

• Work safely at all times, adhering to established Safety Policies and Procedures.
• Plan jobs from blueprints/layouts; determine operation sequence, workholding, and parameters.
• Select and dress wheels (straight, angle, and form) using dressing diamonds and rotary dressers.
• Utilize diamond and other super-abrasive wheels; optimize speeds/feeds and wheel types.
• Program CNC grinding equipment at the machine as needed.
• Measure to 0.0001" with micrometers, indicators, bore gauges, height stands, gage blocks, and gage pins.
• Apply magnets, grinding vises, sine plates, and specialty fixtures for secure setups.
• Use trigonometry/geometry for angle and position calculations; troubleshoot taper and other inaccuracies.
• Run multiple machines simultaneously when appropriate and keep areas clean and orderly.
• Follow the Belvac Quality Management System and continuously seek reductions in setup and run times.

Materials you’ll machine

Aluminum, mild and stainless steels, hardened tool steels, tungsten carbide, and other ultra-hard exotic materials in both soft and hard conditions.

Physical demands

• Standing for long durations (up to 10 hours per day).
• Safe operation of overhead cranes.
• When choosing to lift by hand, follow proper techniques and use assistance/mechanical aids to avoid injury.
• Strong hand–eye coordination; frequent use of hand tools, files, sanders, and grinders.

Education

High School Diploma or equivalent.
