Job summary: main purpose and scope of the job:
Packaging associates are responsible for ensuring the final product is completed and assembled in accordance with customer specifications – focusing on food safety and product quality (as dictated by the standards of SQF) and established productivity goals. Packaging Associates are responsible for loading items into containers, weighing and labeling the items appropriately. Production lines run on a strict schedule, and food packers need to use hand-eye coordination to perform their jobs efficiently while not slowing production. Packers use active listening skills to understand which products need to be packed for the day. They are quick to follow the directions of the shift supervisor to ensure their safety and that of the other line workers. Successful food packers have experience with performing repetitive tasks with efficiency and ease and without losing focus. They also perform final checks for defective items, and ensure all working items make it to the proper staging area. They can lift and move heavy containers full of product with ease.

- Assemble food product and packaging in the correct manner per the customer and company specification.
- Place the product into the appropriate containers in an efficient and timely manner.
- Appropriately package the food to minimize breakage and movement during shipping.
- Seal and label containers with the appropriate materials.
- Pack, weigh, and label completed items for shipment or storage.
- Identify and dispose of defective items.
- Maintain a clean work area.
- Adhere to the company’s Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and the general food safety and compliance principles of SQF standards.
- Operate packaging machines under supervision, do common tasks (Feeding, Packing, Boxing, Palletizing products)
- Notify Team Leader of product discrepancies or equipment malfunctions.
- Participate/support the SQF program and assist in the development of the system and operational standards and corrective actions.
- Adhere to the company's policies and procedures regarding all regulatory, Kosher or Gluten Free certification requirements.
- Adhere to established company policies and procedures regarding plant safety such as LOTO, PPE, and machine guarding.
- Perform other related duties as assigned, alerting managers of idle time.
- Adhere to all break time schedules.
