The neck-down operator will set up and operate machinery that forms the neck or shoulder of the can determined by customer specifications. In addition to operating machinery, the neck-down operator will champion the packaging process of the aluminum cans for customers.
Job Duties
This role is in a manufacturing environment and the employee will be exposed to moving mechanical parts that produce noise.
The neck-down operator will set up and operate machinery that forms the neck or shoulder of the can determined by customer specifications. In addition to operating machinery, the neck-down operator will champion the packaging process of the aluminum cans for customers.
Job Duties
- Read blueprints and can drawings to determine job specifications and tooling.
- Set up and operate all neck-down equipment.
- Perform routine cleaning and preventative maintenance on neck-down related equipment.
- Observe machine operations to detect machine faults and make adjustments necessary for the line.
- Communication with fellow operators to update on production.
- Perform routine quality checks and record findings to ensure cans are meeting job specifications.
- Proficiently perform changeovers and production of aluminum containers to the specifications set by the customer.
- Stack finished items for further processing or shipment.
- Authority to stop and/or modify work processes due to non-conformance and/or unsafe working conditions.
- Report all potential food safety concerns to the quality assurance manager.
- Perform all other job duties as assigned.
- Basic computer skills.
- The ability to see details at close range.
- The ability to match or detect differences between colors, including shades of color and brightness.
- Blueprint reading.
- Ability to solve problems.
- Possess excellent verbal communication skills.
- Measuring skills using calipers, micrometers, gauges, etc.
- Strong mechanical aptitude.
- Quality control skills.
- Must be a team player and possess a "can do" attitude.
- Ability stand for long periods of time on concrete floor.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to read, write and communicate fluently in English.
