Description

Position Summary:

 

The part-time K–12 ESL Teacher provides English Language Development (ELD) instruction to English Learners (ELs), fostering academic success and language proficiency across all four language competencies in an inclusive and supportive environment. This role includes instruction, assessment, collaboration, compliance, and engagement with families.  This is a 10 month position that is supervised by a member of the school leadership team.  The schedule is approximately 3 days a week (flexibility in actual schedule) and will provide ELD instruction to a small group of identified students across the 5 schools in our network. 

 

Core Responsibilities: 

Instruction and Learning Environment

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver ELD instruction aligned with curriculum standards and student needs
  • Create a supportive, engaging classroom that promotes active participation and positive behavior.
  • Instruct and monitor students in the use of instructional materials and technology.
     

Assessment and Student Progress

  • Assess student language proficiency and academic progress using formal and informal methods.
  • Modify instruction based on assessment data and individual student needs.
  • Submit progress reports quarterly and monitor the progress of current and former ELs.
  • Screen Home Language Surveys and conduct English language proficiency screeners.
     

Collaboration and Communication

  • Collaborate regularly with content area teachers to support ELs across subjects.
  • Participate in IEP and other student-focused meetings to support compliance and planning.
  • Communicate effectively with students, families, colleagues, and administrators.
     

Family and Community Engagement

  • Establish and maintain relationships with families through interviews, phone calls, conferences, and consistent communication.
  • Support family involvement in student learning and school activities.
     

Compliance

  • Maintain accurate EL student records
  • Manage all reporting requirements to ensure compliance with federal and state guidelines.

 

Additional responsibilities:

  • Execute school-wide duties such as lunch, recess, hallway supervision, or other assignments as required.
  • Adhere to school rules, procedures, and professional expectations.
  • Participate in department, school, district and parent meetings.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor

 

Skills and Abilities: 

  • Demonstrate preparation and skill in working with students from diverse cultural, economic and ability backgrounds.
  • Encourage parent and community involvement, obtain information for parents when requested, promptly return phone calls and answer emails.
  • Participate in appropriate professional activities.
  • Participate in extracurricular activities such as social activities, sporting activities, clubs and student organizations as directed.
  • Ability to work with students from diverse backgrounds and a variety of individualized needs
  • Previous experience working with children preferred

 

 

 

 

Qualifications


Qualifications: 

Education and Experience: 

  • B.A./B.S. degree from accredited institution;
  • PA K-12 ESL certificate
  • 1-2 years of classroom experience, preferably in urban education;
  • Valid and active Pennsylvania Instructional Certificate;
  • All employees must be able to provide Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Background Check Clearance (Act 34), Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance (Act 151), Federal Bureau of Investigation Record Check Clearance (Act 114), and Sexual Misconduct/Abuse Disclosure Clearance (Act 168) before starting work on campus
