Salary: $74,408-$107,187
Position Duties and Responsibilities:

Provide high-quality student-centered instruction in electrician coursework including theory and lab instruction that are part of the Electrician two-year Associate of Applied Science degree, Associate of Applied Science-Transfer degrees and/or related certificates

  • Follow the academic schedule as approved by the Dean; teach assigned courses at the times and dates specified by the academic schedule
  • Apply necessary components of math, human relations, computer skills, and communications in the technical curriculum
  • Attend all on the job trainings including Faculty In-Service Days and Teaching and Learning Academy 
  • Provide timely and accurate assessment feedback to students
  • Plan, supervise, and evaluate student progress
  • Maintain related student records, evaluations, and progress reports
  • Advise students on academic and professional challenges or refer to appropriate resources on or off campus
  • Hold office hours
  • Work with other faculty and staff to create and implement long term and strategic plans for the department 
  • Follow disciplinary procedures as prescribed and interact consistently and fairly with all students
  • Effectively use computer applications where appropriate, including learning management systems
  • Adhere and ensure compliance with applicable safety laws
  • Participate in community outreach and student recruitment activities, participate in program and campus events, and serve on campus-wide committees
  • Effectively work with and demonstrate respect for students, faculty, and staff from diverse backgrounds and experiences
  • Follow College guidelines for purchasing supplies for the Electrician program and assist in maintaining the budget
  • Work collaboratively with program faculty and the Electrician advisory committee to ensure the training meets industry needs
  • Demonstrate and model professional work standards: conduct, work ethics, positive interpersonal skills, problem solving, teamwork within the college and department
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to Bellingham Technical College's Mission
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Required Skills/Abilities: 
  • Knowledge and understanding of area of specialty including the National Electric Code, residential, commercial, and industrial wiring methods and materials
  • Knowledge of and the ability to articulate basic and complex circuit logic on paper and in a live lab environment
  • Knowledge of job site safety including but not limited to: heights, confined spaces, hazardous locations, Lock out tag out, arc flash, and tool / equipment use
  • Knowledge of current educational teaching methods and strategies
  • Knowledge of institutional accreditation, planning, and continuous quality improvement
  • Knowledge, understanding, support, and commitment of the Bellingham Technical College Mission

Minimum Qualifications: 
  • Prior to final hire, a pre-employment background, including criminal history and signed declaration statement as it pertains to sexual misconduct per Washington State Law (RCW 28B.112.080) will be conducted. Employment is contingent on passing the background check and signed declaration per RCW 28b.112.080 satisfactory to the college. Information from the background check and declaration will not necessarily preclude employment but will be considered in determining the applicant's suitability and competence to perform in the position.  This position has access to children under the age of 18 as part of the State of Washington Running Start Program
  • Current knowledge of National Electric Code and electrical theory including residential, commercial, and industrial wiring methods and materials
  • Specialty Electrician License 

AND 

  • Two or more years of full-time industry experience

OR 

  • Four years of related experience in the electrical industry
Preferred Qualifications: 
  • 01 Journey-Level Electrician license, Washington State Master Electrician or Electrical Administrator certificate
  • AAS degree or higher
  • Completion of a state approved electrician apprenticeship program
  • Supervisory and/or management experience
  • Teaching and/or training experience 
Compensation, Work Schedule and Benefits: 

Salary $74,408-$107,187 based on a 173-day annual contract


Final placement is determined according to the current negotiated CBA and based on an evaluation of education and work and/or teaching experience. 


  • Additional optional compensation may be paid above the 173-day contract rate subject to terms of the collective bargaining agreement.   
  • Additional summer contract and compensation would be paid for summer quarter if program is in session and an assignment is available. 
  • Additional compensation includes up to $4,000 for doctoral stipend
  • Access to professional development pool


This is not guaranteed year to year and is subject to legislation and Collective Bargaining. The work schedule will vary based on student and college needs.  Some evening hours are expected.

  • Receive 90 hours of frontloaded sick leave per academic year (based on 7.5 hours per month)

  • The position has been designated as a bargaining unit position represented by the Bellingham Educational Association (BEA) Benefits are subject to the CBA.
