The Senior Staff Accountant is responsible for overseeing complex accounting functions, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial records, and supporting month-end and year-end close processes. This role serves as a key contributor to financial reporting, compliance, and internal controls, while also mentoring junior accounting staff and partnering with cross-functional teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP
- Lead month-end and year-end close activities, including journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations
- Perform detailed account reconciliations and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner
- Analyze financial data and prepare reports to support management decision-making
- Ensure compliance with internal controls, accounting policies, and regulatory requirements
- Assist with external audits, internal audits, and tax filings by preparing supporting schedules and documentation
- Support budgeting and forecasting processes through variance analysis and financial modeling
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, controls, and system efficiencies
- Serve as a subject matter expert on accounting issues and provide guidance to staff accountants
- Mentor and review the work of junior accounting team members
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Finance, Payroll, Operations, and HR
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- 5–7 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in a corporate or public accounting environment
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting requirements
- Advanced proficiency with accounting systems and Microsoft Excel
- Experience with general ledger, reconciliations, and financial analysis
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Strong attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
- CPA or CPA-eligible preferred
- Experience with ERP systems
- Prior experience leading or mentoring accounting staff
- Experience in audit, tax, or compliance support
