This is a full-time (40 hr. per week), exempt, regular position on a 12-month contract.
The Director of the Dr. Marian A. Swope Counseling Center serves as a campus leader and advocate for student mental health and well-being. Working collaboratively with campus partners, the Director advances a shared vision for holistic wellness and safety that supports students academically, personally, and socially. This role focuses on developing proactive, student-centered strategies that expand access to mental health services, strengthen coping skills, and promote resilience across the campus community. In addition to providing leadership and oversight, the Director delivers direct clinical services to students, including psychotherapy, crisis intervention, assessment, consultation, and referral, ensuring responsive and compassionate care.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide leadership and operational oversight of the Swope Counseling Center, including budget management, policies and procedures, assessment, reporting, and strategic goal setting.
- Supervise and develop Counseling Center staff and graduate practicum students, including administrative and clinical supervision.
- Provide direct clinical services to students, including psychotherapy, assessment, consultation, referral, and crisis intervention, including after-hours response coordination (ProtoCall).
- Manage grants, contracts, and external funding for mental health initiatives (e.g. serve as the principal investigator for the SAMHSA GLS grant)
- Chair the Bellarmine University Partners in Prevention Network
- Design and deliver outreach, education, and prevention programs that promote mental health awareness, resilience, and well-being across the campus community in collaboration with campus partners.
- Serve as a consultation resource for faculty, staff, students, and families on mental health concerns and student support.
- Develop, implement, and support university policies related to student mental health, safety, and care (e.g., sexual misconduct, crisis response).
- Build and sustain relationships with community agencies and healthcare providers to enhance referral networks and continuity of care.
- Serve on university committees, including the Care Team and Student Affairs Dean and Directors, contributing mental health expertise to coordinated student support efforts.
- Support grant development and external funding efforts related to wellness and student mental health initiatives.
- Perform other duties as assigned to advance the mission and impact of the Swope Counseling Center
Job Requirements:
- Licensed doctoral-level psychologist in clinical or counseling psychology. Doctoral degree from an APA-accredited program and completion of an APA-accredited internship.
- Minimum of five years of clinical experience in a college or university counseling center or community mental health setting.
- Minimum of five years of experience providing advanced clinical supervision.
- Demonstrated knowledge of student development theory, clinical training models, and current ethical and legal issues in mental health and higher education.
- Strong experience in crisis assessment and intervention.
- Demonstrated cultural competence and a commitment to equity and social responsibility.
- Commitment to proactive, campus-wide outreach and education, with excellent presentation, oral communication, and written communication skills.
