POSITION SUMMARY
The Group Fitness Instructor leads engaging and effective fitness classes, demonstrating proper exercise techniques while motivating participants of all fitness levels. Group Fitness Instructors provide modifications to accommodate different abilities and create a welcoming environment. Success in this role requires strong skills in engagement, class management, and punctuality.
REQUIREMENTS, ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
- Plan and instruct classes following POA guidelines and industry best practices
- Provide modifications and alternatives for varying fitness levels
- Monitor participants to ensure safety and respond appropriately to incidents or injuries
- Set up and put away equipment before and after class
- Ensure equipment and facilities maintain in good condition, report issues promptly
- Maintain active group fitness certifications and stay updated on industry trends
- Respond promptly to emails, texts, and calls from supervisor and other Group Fitness Team members regarding attendance and facility changes
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
- Current Primary Group Fitness Certification (ACE, AFAA, NASM) or a specialty certification from an accredited institution (e.g., yoga, Silver Sneakers, Zuma, Water Aerobics) or ability to obtain within timeframe given
- Current CPR, First Aid, and AED certification, or ability to obtain within timeframe given
- One year’s experience teaching group fitness
- High school diploma or equivalent

The employee is frequently required to walk, sit; and reach with hands and arms. The employee occasionally lifts and carries tubs and cases weighing up to 25 pounds.
