POSITION SUMMARY
The Dining Room Assistant performs guest services by serving guests bread, water, and butter upon their arrival and provides refills as needed. The Dining Room Assistant will remove used tableware between courses, and they will clear and reset the tables after guests leave. May require independent judgment in the disposition of routine matters without direct supervision. Will work under the direct supervision of the Restaurant Manager
REQUIREMENTS, ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
Obtains service area assignment at the beginning of each shift.
Promptly greets guests as they are seated and brings bread, butter, and water to table.
Removes used tableware between courses and provides tableware for next course.
Clears tables after guests leave.
Takes soiled tableware to dish room and unloads, sorts and stacks silverware, dishes, glassware, etc. in designated areas in the soiled dish drop off area.
Between seatings, promptly cleans tabletops, chairs and booths.
Checks floor and cleans as required. Resets and arranges tabletop.
Inspects assigned restroom every 30 minutes and cleans as needed.
Responds appropriately to guests’ requests.
Communicates guests’ requests to server as needed.
Communicates with server and host/hostess to assure efficient seating, table utilization and customer service.
Assists server as needed with food delivery, especially with large parties and during peak periods.
Thanks guests as they are leaving.
Is available to fill in as needed to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the restaurant as directed by the restaurant manager or immediate supervisor.
Keeps up with the demands of the restaurant.
Maintains a clean and orderly area.
Answers questions and explains rules and regulations when appropriate.
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
Basic mathematical skills: ability to make change
Basic reading and writing skills
Must be able to work in a standing position for prolonged periods of time (up to 5 hours) and be able to reach, bend, stoop and frequently lift ups to 25 pounds
Basic computer skills and ability to operate a point-of-sales system
Excellent communication and customer service skills
Basic understanding of dining room and service procedures and functions
Multi-task oriented
Knowledge of workplace safety procedures

The employee must frequently communicate with Dining Room Assistants, Servers, and other staff. The employee is occasionally exposed to hazards including, but not limited to, cuts from knives, slipping, tripping, falls and burns; frequent exposure to smoke, steam, elevated temperatures, humidity, extreme cold; frequent contact/immersion of hands in water, sanitation solutions, meat products, poultry products, seafood and produce items and frequent washing of hands.
