Cash Application Analyst
Job Summary
A Cash Application Analyst is responsible for accurately applying incoming customer payments to accounts receivable records, researching payment discrepancies, and supporting the company’s cash flow and collections processes. This role works closely with accounting, finance, billing, collections, and customer service teams to ensure timely and accurate payment processing.
Key Responsibilities
- Process and post customer payments including ACH, wire transfers, checks, lockbox, and credit card transactions
- Reconcile unapplied cash and resolve payment discrepancies
- Research short payments, overpayments, deductions, and chargebacks
- Maintain accurate accounts receivable and customer account records
- Collaborate with collections and billing teams to resolve outstanding issues
- Monitor daily cash receipts and prepare cash application reports
- Communicate with customers and banks regarding payment details
- Support month-end closing activities and account reconciliations
- Ensure compliance with internal controls and accounting policies
- Assist with process improvements and automation initiatives
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field preferred
- 1–3 years of experience in cash application, accounts receivable, or accounting operations
- Strong understanding of accounts receivable processes and payment reconciliation
- Experience with ERP/accounting systems such as SAP, Oracle NetSuite, or Microsoft Dynamics 365
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel including VLOOKUPs and pivot tables
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational abilities
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
Preferred Skills
- Experience with lockbox banking systems
- Knowledge of SOX compliance and internal controls
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-volume environment
- Experience with automation or cash application tools
- Strong customer service mindset
