Engineering Drafter
Contract: 6–9 month W2 contract
Pay Rate: $29–$33/hr

Summary
The Engineering Drafter supports Engineering teams by creating and maintaining mechanical drawings and basic electrical wiring diagrams used for manufacturing and equipment documentation. This role translates engineering concepts, sketches, and specifications into clear, accurate drawings that support manufacturing, quality, sales orders, and continuous improvement activities. The position is heavily focused on mechanical drafting with limited but important electrical diagram responsibilities.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Create, revise, and maintain mechanical part and assembly drawings, layouts, and details using SolidWorks CAD software (approximately 85% mechanical focus).
- Prepare general arrangement shop drawings to support Sales Orders and manufacturing execution.
- Apply proper dimensioning, tolerancing, and GD&T in accordance with ANSI Y14.5 standards and internal company requirements.
- Create and update simple electrical wiring diagrams, connection drawings, and basic schematics (not full electrical system designs) using AutoCAD or DraftSight.
- Develop and maintain connection wiring diagrams, including support for Portable Prover projects.
- Process and update drawings based on approved Engineering Change Notices (ECNs) and ensure timely and accurate revisions.
- Collaborate closely with Engineers to clarify design intent, resolve drawing questions, and support standardization efforts.
- Support manufacturing, quality, and operations teams by clarifying drawing intent and responding to production questions.
- Spend limited but regular time on the manufacturing floor (approximately once per week) to verify drawings, validate configurations, and address shop‑floor feedback.
- Maintain drawing revisions, version control, and documentation accuracy using SolidWorks PDM and JD Edwards (JDE) MRP systems.
Qualifications
Education / Experience
- Associate degree or technical diploma in Drafting, Engineering Technology, or a related field OR equivalent hands‑on experience.
- Minimum of 2 years of drafting experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment (candidates with slightly less experience may be considered if SolidWorks proficiency is strong).
- Experience working within an ISO 9001 quality system preferred.
- Proficiency with SolidWorks, including assemblies and drawing creation; experience with SolidWorks PDM strongly preferred.
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD or DraftSight for basic electrical wiring diagrams and connection drawings.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and basic electrical schematics.
Skills
- Strong attention to detail and drawing accuracy
- Functional understanding of GD&T (ANSI Y14.5)
- Basic understanding of electrical wiring symbols and conventions
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, drawing revisions, and ECN workflows
- Effective communication skills when working with engineers, manufacturing, and quality teams
Nice‑to‑Have / Preferred Skills
- CSWP (Certified SolidWorks Professional) certification
- Experience as a SolidWorks PDM Administrator
- Experience with large assemblies, sheet metal, or industrial equipment
- Familiarity with Industrial Instrumentation & Electrical (I&E) environments
- Experience creating or supporting P&ID drawings
- Involvement in continuous improvement or process optimization projects
Working Conditions
