Production Training Supervisor

Job Summary:

The Training Supervisor is a front-line leader responsible for designated areas of the manufacturing process, ensuring operational excellence and a performance-oriented environment. This position plays a key role in effectively training Production staff. Supervisors will continue to identify their training, testing, and support needs, partnering with the Training Supervisor to implement solutions and improve shift performance. The Training Supervisor will assist with scheduling, recommend training opportunities, and provide support. Working hours may vary between day and night shifts, depending on operational needs.

Essential Duties & Functions:

Training & Development
  • Coordinate and schedule team training sessions.
  • Develop, update, and deliver training materials in collaboration with Management.
  • Identify skill gaps by partnering with shift supervisors; organize targeted technical and operational training.
  • Lead cross-training and rotation programs; recommend training opportunities.
  • Track and document employee training completion, skills assessments, and progress using Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
  • Collaborate with Human Resources and Continuous Improvement on Train-the-Trainer materials and resources for various training platforms (POKA, Fabriq, SharePoint, SOPs, OPLs).
  • Provide input on training progress for employee reviews (30-60-90 day, annual).
  • Review downtime and OEE analysis and use findings to help develop targeted training plans.
  • Facilitate and sponsor continuous improvement projects (e.g., Yellow Belt initiatives) within the department.
  • Audit completed training and proficiency testing; conduct gap analysis and assess hands-on skill demonstrations.
  • Provide feedback on Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Sanitation SOPs (SSOPs), and One-Point Lessons (OPLs) to ensure they are compliant with current training practices.
  • Collaborate with the Safety Manager to assess working conditions, ergonomics, and identify needed adjustments for safety and efficiency.

Demonstrate the Company's values and winning behaviors while adhering to all company policies and practices, including safety and environmental protocols, quality standards, and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).

Qualifications:

Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Operations Management, Food Science, Engineering or a related field is strongly preferred.
  • In lieu of a degree, relevant work experience or a combination of education and experience may be considered.


Experience
  • 3 years of experience as a supervisor in a manufacturing environment
  • At least 1 year or food industry manufacturing experience is strongly preferred
  • At least 1 year of lean manufacturing or six sigma methodology

Required Skills
  • Ability to read and understand documentation relating to manufacturing operations
  • Ability to coordinate manufacturing activities to maximize production and minimize downtime
  • Ability to function as a team member and contribute to group goals
  • Requires excellent communication skills, both verbally and written, in English


Preferred Skills
  • Six Sigma Green Belt certification is strongly preferred.


Physical Requirements & Working Conditions
  • Work is performed largely on the manufacturing plant floor with some time spent in an office environment.
  • Hours of work will generally be during regular business hours with at least 40 hours a week. At times there will be some variation in work hours due to special projects, off-shift support, deadlines and other concerns.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds
  • Ability to stand, sit, or walk for extended periods.
  • Fine motor skills for operating tools or machinery.
  • Work in hot, cold, or humid environments.
  • Occasional exposure to loud machinery or equipment.
  • Must be able to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
