Production Supervisor – First Shift

Schedule: First Shift, 5:00 a.m.–2:30 p.m., with flexibility to support Second Shift, 2:30 p.m.–12:30 a.m., as operational needs require.

Position Summary

The Production Group Supervisor provides hands-on leadership and direction for production operations within the facility. This position works closely with other departments and operational leaders to establish and maintain processes that improve safety, quality, productivity, reliability, and overall operational effectiveness.

The Production Group Supervisor is responsible for ensuring compliance with company policies and applicable food-safety and regulatory requirements, including GMPs, SOPs, HACCP, and USDA standards. This individual will foster a workplace culture built on respect, accountability, teamwork, continuous improvement, cost awareness, and professional communication.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Provide daily leadership, direction, and supervision to assigned production employees.

  • Motivate, train, coach, and communicate effectively with shift employees to achieve superior levels of safety, quality, sanitation, reliability, and productivity.

  • Ensure individual and team performance meets or exceeds established goals and expectations.

  • Develop expert knowledge of production processes and associated equipment.

  • Systematically troubleshoot production and equipment-related issues while developing employees' ability to identify and resolve problems independently.

  • Maintain an appropriate sense of urgency during production runs and periods of equipment downtime.

  • Communicate production, staffing, quality, safety, and equipment issues promptly to maintenance personnel and the management team.

  • Establish and maintain training procedures and action plans that strengthen employees' job knowledge, technical skills, and overall performance.

  • Ensure compliance with company policies, operating procedures, food-safety requirements, and finished-product specifications.

  • Set clear expectations for production performance, product quality, lot tracking, traceability, and adherence to prescribed operating procedures.

  • Lead continuous-improvement initiatives that enhance safety, product quality, equipment reliability, production efficiency, and waste reduction.

  • Coordinate with the Production Department Manager and Supply Chain Manager to develop production schedules that support product quality, operational efficiency, and cost-control objectives.

  • Monitor sanitation activities and cleaning results to ensure daily sanitation is completed according to established procedures and meets USDA requirements.

  • Remain composed and effective under pressure, manage competing priorities, and adjust methods or priorities as operational conditions change.

  • Treat employees and colleagues with professionalism, dignity, and respect.

  • Accept responsibility for decisions and actions and consistently follow through on commitments.

  • Review and approve departmental payroll accurately and within established deadlines.

  • Provide coverage for other Production Group Supervisors as needed.

  • Work flexible or variable hours, including weekends, in support of a 24/7 production environment.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Minimum of five years of experience in food processing or manufacturing.

  • Minimum of two years of supervisory or team-leadership experience.

  • Working knowledge of food-manufacturing processes, GMPs, food-safety requirements, and production technology.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, develop, and achieve results through others.

  • Ability to work effectively with employees representing varying levels of education, experience, expertise, and backgrounds.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

  • Self-motivated, dependable, and able to take initiative in a fast-paced production environment.

  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, decision-making, and conflict-resolution skills.

  • Ability to work the scheduled first shift while remaining flexible to support second shift and other operational needs.
