Statement of Purpose
• Supervises and/or performs other varied maintenance duties including but not limited to: plasters walls and ceilings; plunges toilets and drains when necessary; repairs beds; services and repairs exhaust fans; replaces fan belts or adjusts as necessary; maintenance & repair of heating & cooling systems; inspects and safety checks dietary equipment; checks draft gauges on air handling systems;
Major Tasks, Duties and Responsibilities
• Directly reports to the Operations Manager. Performs routine and non-routine activities of the Maintenance Department as required. Supervises all maintenance staff. Works as a team member with other maintenance staff throughout BHS when needed.
• Instructs, trains, supervises and evaluates maintenance staff in the use of equipment and work methods.
• Performs installations, services and repairs. Carries out special projects.
• Determines if tasks can be carried out by in-house maintenance staff. Recommends use of outside services only when necessary.
• Assigns posted jobs to Maintenance staff as needed.
• Orders various supplies, parts, and materials as needed. May arrange to pick up such items when necessary.
• Inspects and evaluates the physical condition of the facility and schedules repairs as needed.
• solders, brazes, and welds as needed; installs and repairs locks on doors; checks vehicles.
• Represents BHS well in all in-house and outside functions and contacts. Works as a team member. Maintains cultural sensitivity at all times, conveying respect for cultural and lifestyle diversities of clients and staff.
• Maintains familiarity with BHS policies and procedures and other applicable regulations. Performs job duties accordingly.
• Conducts yearly evaluations for all Operations Department staff.
• Recognizes personal issues that impact job performance and interactions with clients and staff and conducts counseling and or write ups as needed.
• Demonstrates ethical and professional behavior.
• Approves time off requested and time cards.
• Attends meetings and participates in committees as assigned.
• Performs other related work as required
Maintenance Supervisor Competencies and Performance Expectations
All Maintenance Supervisors are expected to:
• Perform a wide variety of maintenance duties in and around the facility
• Maintain health and safety standards of facility
• Be responsible for departmental weekly meetings
• Train, supervise and evaluate staff
Prerequisite Qualifications
Following are the qualifications required to perform the essential functions of this position. Qualifications may be subject to modification based on the Americans with Disabilities Act.
Combination of education and work experience equivalent to some trade school plus three years experience in related general maintenance, institutional setting preferred. Demonstrated leadership/supervision experience. Know how to operate various power tools. Must be able to understand and read English in order to read and understand material safety data sheets, maintenance requests and other written materials.
Computer, communication, writing, record keeping and math skills adequate for performance of job duties. Valid California driver’s license. Must have liability insurance when driving personal vehicle on BHS business.
Able to stand, stoop, bend, squat and reach for purpose of performing job duties such as handling materials stocked on shelves, filing, lifting, and assisting with emergency situations. Routinely lift and move items weighing up to twenty-five pounds and

occasionally up to seventy five pounds; is expected to ask for assistance and use a dolly or cart for any heavy items. Vision, hearing, manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination must be adequate for performance of job duties. Able to physically perform job duties.
Duties require use of stool or ladder and ability to work on ladder.
