Position Summary
BHB is seeking a detail-oriented and mission-aligned Bookkeeper / Billing Specialist to join our growing administrative team. This in-office role is responsible for managing the organization's day-to-day financial operations, including accounts payable and receivable, general ledger maintenance, and billing processes tied to our ECM and Community Supports programs. The ideal candidate brings nonprofit or healthcare billing experience and a heart for community service.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage full-cycle bookkeeping including accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, and general ledger entries using QuickBooks
- Prepare and submit billing documentation for ECM and Community Supports services in compliance with Medi-Cal, DHCS, and Managed Care Plan (MCP) requirements
- Track reimbursements, monitor claims status, and follow up on unpaid or denied claims in a timely manner
- Maintain accurate and organized records of all financial transactions, billing submissions, and supporting documentation
- Assist with month-end and year-end close processes, including preparation of financial reports for leadership and funders
- Support internal and external audits by preparing required documentation and responding to inquiries
- Collaborate with care management and program staff to ensure billing documentation aligns with service delivery records
- Monitor and reconcile grant and contract expenditures against approved budgets
- Assist in developing and maintaining internal financial policies, procedures, and controls
Minimum Qualifications
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field; equivalent work experience will be considered
- Minimum of 2 years of bookkeeping or accounting experience, preferably in a nonprofit or healthcare setting
- Proficiency in QuickBooks (Online or Desktop)
- Strong working knowledge of accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger processes
- High attention to detail and accuracy in financial data entry and reporting
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion with sensitive financial information
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Medi-Cal, CalAIM, or managed care billing processes
- Familiarity with DHCS program requirements and fee-for-service reimbursement structures
- Prior experience in a nonprofit, community-based organization, or social services setting
- Bilingual in English and Spanish is a plus
Compensation and Benefits
- Annual salary of $85,000
