Overview
Under direct supervision, perform all duties related to registering patients being admitted to the medical center or receiving outpatient services by obtaining demographic, insurance, and medical information.Responsibilities
Interviews patients or patient representatives to obtain demographic and insurance information necessary for medical record identification and bill processing. Inputs patient registration information into computer system, verifies accuracy of data entered, pre-regs accounts, activates accounts and scans appropriate documents. Take pictures of patients to attach to EPIC Updates information received during registration to EPIC electronic charting system. Prepares required forms for signature by patient or patient representative in either paper or by e-signature and ensures that each is explained and presented. Prepares required forms for practitioner use during visit. Processes wound and hyperbaric outpatient charts/medical record. Verifies possession of current physician order when appropriate. Obtains and verified authorizations have not expired and updates as needed. Collects co-pays and assists to perform cash out procedure. Assists patient and information flow by directing patients to correct locations, arranging patient transport, and answering incoming calls, as needed. Demonstrate proficiency with EPIC for new and follow-up appointments, working in the In-Basket of EPIC for accurate routing of telephone calls. Collects the AVS from the printer and gives it to the patient upon scheduling of the patient. Keeps providers templates updated in the schedular in EPIC and blocks or release appt spots as necessary. Assists in care and maintenance of office equipment and supplies. Alerts supervisor to malfunction of equipment and/or call for maintenance/repair. Orders and copies forms are needed for chart preparation. Assists entering all patient charges as needed. Copies chart as requested by patients and physician offices following Beebe policy. Collect the mail from the outside mailbox on a weekly process. Pulls charts for audits for supervisor and director. Facilitates chart requests by billing office/medical records department. Notify clinical staff of new inpatients if necessary. Creates electronic chart for EPIC. Processes and manages the front desk assigned work queues and billing reconciliation in EPIC. Keeps the incoming referrals to center cleared and updated during the day. Participates in Fire drills and emergencies in the center.
Qualifications
Previous experience in hospital registration or medical office environment with familiarity of admitting and insurance required. Ability to communicate with public in a courteous manner modeling the Beebe Values. Ability to adapt to change in order to meet patient and organizational needs. Sensitive to difficult/emotional patient situations. Ability to recognize cultural diversity and special needs, remains calm and able to perform duties in a fast-paced environment. Typing/Computer skills with attention to details, Medical Terminology required.
