Overview
Under direct supervision, perform all duties related to registering patients being admitted to the medical center or receiving outpatient services by obtaining demographic, insurance, and medical information.
Responsibilities
Interviews patient or patient representatives to obtain demographic and insurance information necessary for medical record identification and bill processing. Inputs patient registration information into computer system, verifies accuracy of data entered, pre-regs accounts, activates accounts and scans appropriate documents. Updates information received during registration to Wound Expert electronic charting system. Prepares required forms for signature by patient or patient representative and ensures that each is explained and presented. Prepares required forms for practitioner use during visit. Processes wound, diabetes and nutrition outpatient charts/medical record. Verifies possession of current physician order. Verifies visits are noted to insurance tracking label at front of chart and authorization has not expired. Presents to insurance/scheduler if updates are needed. Processes wound care, diabetes and nutrition records. Assists assistant registrar to collect co-pays, and assists assistant registrar to perform cash out procedure. Assists patient and information flow by directing patients to correct locations, arranging patient transport, and answering incoming calls, as needed. Demonstrates proficiency with Outlook scheduling and Wound Expert scheduling guidelines for new and follow-up appointments. Assists in care and maintenance of office equipment and supplies. Alerts supervisor to malfunction of equipment and/or call for maintenance/repair. Orders and copies forms needed for chart preparation. Assists entering all patient charges as needed. Manages medical records at Wound Care/Diabetes Management. Copies chart as requested by patients and physician offices following Beebe policy. Pulls charts for audits for supervisor and director. Facilitates chart requests by billing office/medical records department. Notifies clinical staff of new inpatients. Prepares chart for inpatient following WCC guidelines. Creates electronic chart in Wound Expert. Enters H & P to Wound Expert.
Qualifications
Previous experience in hospital registration or medical office environment with familiarity of admitting and insurance required. Ability to communicate with public in a courteous manner modeling the Beebe Values. Ability to adapt to change in order to meet patient and organizational needs. Sensitive to difficult/emotional patient situations. Ability to recognize cultural diversity and special needs, remains calm and able to perform duties in a fast-paced environment. Typing/Computer skills with attention to details, Medical Terminology required.
