Job Summary:
The purpose of this job is to clean and maintain assigned school or BCPS property.
Essential Duties
- Keeps building and premises, including sidewalks, driveways, steps, and play areas, neat and clean at all times.
- Checks daily to ensure all exit doors are secured and working properly during the school hours of building occupancy.
- Sweeps and/or vacuums and dusts classrooms daily.
- Cleans corridors after school each day, and during the day when their condition requires it.
- Scrubs, hoses down, and disinfects toilet floors daily, and cleans all sanitary fixtures and drinking fountains daily.
- Washes all windows on both the inside and outside at least twice each year, and more frequently as necessary.
- Disposes of litter and debris inside and outside of the school building.
- Reports major repairs needed promptly to the principal.
- Maintains on a regular schedule all motors and other mechanical equipment requiring scheduled servicing.
- Maintains the school grounds in a safe and attractive condition, including but not limited to grass cutting, tree trimming, weeding, mulching, and snow removal as necessary.
- Remains on the school premises during school hours, and during non-school hours when the use of the building has been authorized and attendance is required by the principal.
- Assumes responsibility for the opening and closing of the building each school day and for determining, before leaving, that all doors and windows are secured, and all lights, except those left on for safety reasons, are turned off.
- Moves furniture or equipment within buildings as required for various activities and as directed by the principal.
- Complies with laws and procedures for storage and disposal of trash and waste.
- Performs related work as required.
Minimum Education and Experience Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED equivalent and some cleaning experience.
Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving history.
