The Transportation and Operations Manager is responsible for ensuring the reliable, safe, and efficient delivery of fuel to customers across all service areas. This role upholds Beck Oils mission to provide uninterrupted mobility, operational reliability, and consistent productivity for customers by guaranteeing that fuel is delivered accurately, on time, and aligned with customer operating requirements.

This position plays a critical role in strengthening customer trust, minimizing operational disruptions, and upholding the company's reputation for dependable fueling services.


Position Summary

Reporting directly to the Managing Director, the Transportation and Operations Manager provide strategic, operational, and financial leadership for all transportation activities. Responsibilities include fleet performance, safety and regulatory compliance, customer delivery execution, capital planning, and driver development.

This role oversees fleet management, dispatch, routing, driver staffing, and operational processes across all service locations and partners closely with Supply, Sales, Safety, Finance, HR, and Customer Service. Periodic travel to terminals, fleet shops, customer locations, and field operations is required.


Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

Develop and execute long-term transportation strategies aligned with organizational, financial, and customer service objectives.

Advise the Managing Director on fleet capacity, capital investment planning, operational improvements, and risk mitigation.

Support companywide initiatives through active leadership team participation and cross-functional alignment.

Lead continuous improvement initiatives targeting safety, reliability, cost efficiency, and fleet optimization.

Customer Reliability & Service Execution

Oversee end-to-end fuel distribution with accountability for customer uptime and delivery performance.

Ensure accurate, timely, and reliable fueling for overnight, off-hours, and unattended deliveries.

Anticipate operational variablessuch as demand fluctuations, weather, supply constraintsand proactively adjust plans to maintain service continuity.

Lead root-cause analysis and implement corrective actions for service failures.

Collaborate with Customer Service, Sales, and Account Management to understand customer requirements and service sensitivities.

Safety, Compliance & Risk Management

Champion a proactive safety culture grounded in accountability and continuous improvement.

Ensure compliance with OSHA, SCAQMD, DOT, FMCSA, EPA, and hazardous materials regulations.

Oversee safety programs, audits, incident investigations, and corrective action efforts.

Maintain accurate driver qualification files, licensing, certifications, and regulatory documentation.

Operations & Fleet Management

Direct daily transportation operations including dispatch, routing, staffing, and delivery performance.

Manage fleet specifications, replacement planning, equipment reliability, and uptime performance.

Ensure all drivers and vehicles maintain proper certifications and rack access.

Monitor operating costs at both the fleet level and individual vehicle level.

Leverage telematics, TMS systems, and fleet technologies to enhance performance and decision-making.

Oversee Bulk Plant and Cardlock operations.

Financial & Capital Planning

Manage the full transportation P&L.

Build and administer the transportation operating budget across labor, fuel, equipment, insurance, and compliance categories.

Lead capital planning and vehicle replacement strategies to maximize lifecycle value and ROI.

Analyze fleet utilization, performance metrics, and financial data to guide investment and operational decisions.

People Leadership & Development

Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of transportation leaders and staff.

Foster a culture of engagement, ownership, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Support recruitment, retention, coaching, and professional development.

Partner with HR on workforce planning, labor relations, and talent management.
