Project Overview:

Thacker Pass is the largest known lithium resource in the United States. Once complete, the mine and processing facilities will produce more lithium carbonate than any other facility in the United States by far — enough to power 1 million electric vehicles per year.As the EPCM contractor for Lithium Americas, Bechtel is responsible for managing and integrating the efforts of a team contractors engineering and building the facility. We are also managing procurement of about $1 Billion in goods and services.Earth work began in 2023 and design and procurement of long-lead equipment is underway.The project is located in the high desert and wide-open spaces of north-central Nevada about 25 miles from the Oregon border, 1 hour northwest of Winnemucca, Nevada and 3 hours northeast of Reno.Planned with sustainability and the environment in mind, the facility will use its excess process heat to generate electricity and will recycle process water up to seven times. Once the second phase of the project is complete, Thacker Pass will produce more than 16 times the current U.S. output of lithium.Bechtel is proud to play a critical role in the U.S. transition to cleaner energy and offers the following opportunity on the Thacker Pass Project.

Job Summary:

The Structural Steel Field Engineer reports to the Area Field Engineer/ Project Field Engineer and is responsible for the technical oversight of all concrete activities on the project. The selected applicant shall provide technical direction to the direct hire work force as well as supervision. The Structural Steel Field Engineer is responsible for all aspects of the structural steel related work in his area. #LI-NP1

Major Responsibilities:

• Must have construction experience with the area’s primary, secondary, and miscellaneous steel
• Coordinate with supervision the work schedule and any material deliveries required
• Complete training requirements assigned.
• Preparation of concrete installation work packages
• Inspection of field installations and completion of associated documentation.
• Responsible for quantity take-off, control, reporting and forecasting for all civil/structural quantities.
• Prepare field change documentation and as-built documentation as required.
• Interface with engineering office to resolve design and constructability issue.
• Reviews specifications, inspection reports, delivery schedules, instruction manuals and technical data.
• Assist with preparation of construction estimates.
• Recommend design or installation improvements to improve safety on the project.

Education and Experience Requirements:

• University/B.S degree in Civil or Structural Engineering and 8-10 years field civil/structural engineering or 12-14 years of relevant industry experience.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

• Experience with Bechtel direct hire craft preferred
• Contract management experience
• Understanding of applicable Bechtel work processes including Standard Work Process Procedures is preferred.
• Experience in mining and metals preferred
• Familiarity with Bechtel Standard Applications (BSAPs) including InfoWorks, TEAMWorks, BPS, PTR, eSub and other automation tools which are used on Bechtel projects is an asset.
• Computer literate in word processing, spreadsheet and database applications.
• Working knowledge of applicable industry codes and standards.
• Excellent communication and problem-solving ability
