As a Unit Manager for the Plant Engineering Analysis (PEA) unit at BPMI, you will be responsible for the technical engineering management of structural and dynamic analysis efforts supporting FCE (Flow Control Equipment) and I&C (Instrumentation and Control) department cognizant equipment. This position is based at BPMI - Pittsburgh to support the FCE and I&C customers.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Oversight and organization of structural analysis efforts to support component design, production and fleet issues.
- Planning and executing operational impact assessments and extended service life evaluations for flow control equipment.
- Teaming with FCE, NNL (Naval Nuclear Laboratory), and Program suppliers to evaluate the design and structural integrity of new technology insertions into the fleet.
- Leading analysis technology development efforts to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of structural evaluation techniques.
- Maintaining the technical excellence of BPMI and the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program (NNPP) structural evaluations to ensure safe component operation.
- Oversight and planning of shock and vibration qualification testing efforts.
- Development of shock and vibration analyses and technical justification to support qualification extensions.
- Collaborate with NNL on the development of new dynamic structural evaluation techniques.
- Creating and implementing innovative shock and vibration testing solutions.
Essential Duties:
- Organize, manage, and direct the efforts of personnel engaged in the execution of structural engineering analysis including engineering mechanics, finite element analysis, thermal/mechanical analysis, fracture mechanics, heat transfer, dynamics, shock, vibration, fluid dynamics, and related technologies.
- Responsible for ensuring the correct execution of technical work: developing and applying engineering and scientific principles to accomplish work, including assurance of appropriate technical reviews.
- Oversee structural evaluations and provide technical consultation and guidance on the analysis and design of power plant components to applicable design codes and standards.
- Champion the application of new technologies and new approaches/requirements to realize efficiencies in analysis techniques, testing methods, or supplier fabrication span and cost reduction efforts.
- Represent BPMI at technical meetings with other prime contractors, suppliers, and Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program representatives.
- Strategically plan and develop knowledge areas within the team and department to build and maintain critical skill knowledge areas.
- Manage and forecast labor resources.
- Responsible for succinct summaries, both oral and written, of work and work issues for senior management.
- Facilitate professional development through training and mentoring.
- Occasional trips (less than 10%) to Naval Nuclear Laboratory sites and BPMI inter-site travel.

- Six (6) years of NNPP or program experience.
- Advanced degrees (e.g., Master's, Ph. D.) may be considered as a partial substitute for required experience, depending on the relevance to the position, but may not fulfill the entire experience requirement.
