Houseperson/Groundskeeper

Summary: The Houseperson/Groundskeeper is responsible for maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness, safety, and overall appearance of both the interior and exterior areas of the hotel property. This role ensures guest rooms, public spaces, laundry facilities, landscaped grounds, walkways, and recreational areas are clean, organized, functional, and visually appealing to enhance the overall guest experience.

This position requires a strong attention to detail, physical stamina, and the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with the housekeeping team and other departments.

Responsibilities:

Essential functions of the position are below. Additional duties may be assigned as required.

Interior Housekeeping & Floor Care

• Perform comprehensive floor maintenance of carpets and hard surfaces, including buffing, stripping, waxing, shampooing, extraction, bonneting, and spot treatment.
• Maintain cleanliness of all public spaces including lobby, hallways, guest bathrooms, stairs, elevators, pool areas, restaurant spaces, and other common areas.
• Complete daily public space cleaning checklists.
• Move furniture as needed and perform window cleaning.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of laundry areas, storage closets, and housekeeping supply areas; ensure supplies are fully stocked.
• Return dishes, glassware, and ice buckets to designated dish stations.
• Clean and organize housekeeping areas at the end of each shift to support operational efficiency.
• Assist with additional housekeeping tasks as needed.
• Adhere to key control and hotel security procedures.
• Follow all safety standards, including Bloodborne Pathogen procedures and proper handling of chemicals in accordance with SDS guidelines.
• Report maintenance issues promptly to the appropriate supervisor.
• The salary range for this position is $16-$16.50 per hour based upon experience.

Exterior Grounds & Property Maintenance

• Maintain lawns, gardens, shrubs, trees, flower beds, and landscaped areas.
• Mow, edge, trim, fertilize, plant, and water landscaping using irrigation systems or manual methods.
• Monitor and perform basic repairs on irrigation systems.
• Remove weeds, leaves, debris, litter, snow, and ice from walkways, parking areas, and entrances.
• Maintain outdoor lighting fixtures and report electrical concerns.
• Keep sidewalks, entryways, parking lots, and exterior spaces clean and hazard-free.
• Operate and maintain landscaping equipment such as mowers, trimmers, and blowers.
• Assist with outdoor event setups when required.
• Follow all chemical handling and safety procedures.

Experience and Skills:

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Previous experience in housekeeping, floor care, landscaping, or groundskeeping preferred.
• Knowledge of floor maintenance equipment and landscaping tools.
• Basic maintenance and repair skills.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness standards.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Positive attitude, reliability, and strong work ethic.
• Flexible availability, including nights, weekends, holidays, and early mornings.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

• Ability to walk and stand for approximately 90% of the shift (8 hours).
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
• Continuous physical activity throughout shift.
• Work performed both indoors (guest rooms, laundry, public areas) and outdoors (grounds and exterior areas).
• Exposure to varying weather conditions including heat, cold, sun, and precipitation.
• Exposure to cleaning agents, landscaping chemicals, equipment noise, and other environmental factors.
• Combination of independent and team-based work responsibilities.
