Primary Purpose
The primary purpose of this position is daily preparation of meals and clean up for the Health Center and Personal Care residents. The purpose is to provide a quality meal program for our residents and their guests, encouraging independence and a positive sense of wellbeing. The position also caters for special events.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Adheres to safe handling standards.
- Ensures quality, temperature and type of food is appropriate for each resident being served at each meal daily.
- Maintains a sanitary kitchen and dining room environment.
- All meals should be served in a timely manner— honoring all requests in accordance with the resident's diet order.
- The ability to correctly operate and clean kitchen equipment.
- Prepares and supplies the resident's nourishments as ordered by the Dietitian (Physician).
- Complete all daily duties, including special cleaning — restocking and preparation and completion of all tasks assigned.
- Set up dining room before and after meals.
- Break down dining room, Responsible for setting meal trays for delivery to resident rooms. Busing (cleanness and sanitation) of soiled service ware, cleaning tables, chairs, counter tops and service area, food trucks, and food carts.
- The dietary department promotes the highest quality of customer satisfaction.
- Report to work in a timely manner, in a complete, clean, and neat uniform.
- Personal hygiene is paramount, in terms of bathing daily, being well groomed and changing your uniform daily. Hairnets/head covering, and gloves are to be worn when handling or preparing food.
- Adheres to rules and performance standards as set forth in the Employee Handbook and the Policies and Procedures of the Dietary Department.
- Maintain communication and ongoing contact with the Residents, Managers, and staff. Foster teamwork and ensure the success of interdepartmental projects.
- Communicates with Dietary Management Team regarding any updates or changes in the department.
- Participate and assist in department studies and projects as directed, including mentoring and counseling.
- Provide leadership, follow instructions, and take suggestions (constructive criticism).
- Maintain open lines of communication between coworkers and other departments to ensure that quality services are provided.
- Maintain confidentiality of resident information.
- Ensure that the residents' personal and property rights are maintained by assigned personnel.
Qualifications/Skills
- Serve safe certification.
- Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
- Must possess the ability to make independent decisions, to follow instructions, and to accept constructive criticism.
- Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies personnel and the general public.
- Must be knowledgeable of dietary practices and procedures in the long-term care facility.
- Must possess leadership ability and the willingness to work harmoniously with and to supervise non-professional personnel.
- Must have the ability to plan organize, develop, implement, and interpret the programs, goals, objectives, policies, procedures, etc., of the Dietary Department.
- Must maintain the care and use of supplies, equipment, etc., and maintain the appearance of dietary areas; must perform regular inspections of resident rooms/units for sanitation, order, safety, and proper performance of assigned duties.
- Must have patience, tact, a cheerful disposition, and enthusiasm.
- Must possess the ability to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing dietary practices.
- Must be able to relate information concerning a resident's condition.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday.
- Must be able to walk throughout the campus.
- Long periods of standing in extreme temperatures.
- Must be able to speak and write the English language in an understandable manner.
- Must function independently and have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with the residents and personnel.
- Must be able to life, push, pull, and move equipment, supplies, etc., in excess of fifty (50) pounds.
- Must be able to assist in the evacuation of residents.
Education
- High School Diploma or GED Required. May substitute years of experience.
