What are the responsibilities and job description for the Inmate Program and Service Coordinator position at Beaufort County South Carolina?
The purpose of this position is to provide assistance and guidance of services available to inmates. The services include: alcohol and drug rehabilitation, vocational rehabilitation, adult education and other programs. This class works independently, under limited supervision, reporting major activities through periodic meetings.
The essential functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary.
- Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff, processing employee concerns and problems, directing work, counseling, disciplining, and completing employee performance appraisals.
- Coordinates, assigns and reviews work and establishes work schedules; maintains standards; monitors status of work in progress; inspects completed work assignments; answers questions; gives advice and direction as needed.
- Provides information concerning referrals to appropriate community agencies and programs, i.e., social services, rehabilitation and mental health.
- Coordinates inmate participation in educational, vocational, and rehabilitative programs available.
- Screens inmates written requests for social work services and responds according to procedures.
- Coordinates clergy visits and community programs.
- Prepares written programs and services reports.
- Maintaining a safe environment for staff and inmates.
- Provides referrals for family services requiring mediation, coordination, and crisis counseling.
- Performs related work as assigned.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Requires Bachelor’s degree or education and training equivalent to four years of college education in business, liberal arts, or any field other than engineering or the hard sciences.
- Over two years and up to and including four years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy certified Class 2 LCO/SCO.
- Prison Rape Elimination Act Training.
- Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving history.
