The CDL Driver is responsible for the safe, legal, and efficient operation of company vehicles used to transport crews, equipment, and materials to and from job sites. This role combines commercial driving responsibilities with hands-on landscape crew support, and is critical to daily field operations running on schedule and in compliance with DOT regulations.
Duties and responsibilities
• Safely operate company vehicles (dump trucks, flatbeds, single/tandem axle trucks with trailers) requiring a Class A or Class B Commercial Driver's License.
• Transport crew members, landscaping equipment, mowers, and materials (mulch, soil, plants, stone, debris) between the yard/nursery and job sites.
• Perform and document pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections (DVIRs) in accordance with FMCSA requirements.
• Safely load, secure, and unload equipment and materials, including proper use of ramps, straps, chains, and tie-downs.
• Maintain accurate driver logs and Hours of Service (HOS) records where applicable.
• Perform routine equipment checks; report mechanical issues, damage, or maintenance needs promptly.
• Support ground crew with landscape maintenance and installation tasks (mowing, planting, mulching, irrigation, hardscape) when not driving.
• Navigate efficient routes between multiple job sites while maintaining schedule and fuel efficiency.
• Comply with all federal, state, and local DOT and traffic regulations, as well as company safety policies.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of assigned vehicle(s).
• Communicate professionally with clients, crew leaders, and dispatch regarding schedules, delays, or site conditions.
• Assist with dump/disposal runs and material pickups from suppliers (mulch yards, nurseries, stone yards).

• Valid Class A or Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) in good standing.
• Clean Motor Vehicle Record (MVR); meets company and DOT insurability standards.
• Current DOT medical examiner's certificate.
• Minimum 1–2 years of verifiable commercial driving experience, preferably with trailers.
• Ability to pass pre-employment and random DOT drug/alcohol screening.
• Ability to read maps/GPS and plan efficient multi-stop routes.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 75 lbs. regularly, and up to 100 lbs. occasionally with assistance.
• Ability to sit for extended periods while driving and to perform physical landscape labor when not driving.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, and precipitation.
• Frequent bending, kneeling, climbing in/out of vehicles, and repetitive lifting/loading motions
Preferred Qualifications
• Prior experience in landscaping, hardscaping, or green industry operations.
• Air brake and/or tanker/doubles-triples endorsements.
• Experience towing and backing trailers in tight residential or commercial settings.
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) communication skills.
