POSITION SUMMARY: This position is responsible for creating and managing a safe, nurturing learning environment, developing age-appropriate curriculum, implementing daily activities, assessing child development, communicating with parents, supervising assistants, and ensuring compliance with licensing, focus on children’s social, emotional, physical, and cognitive growth. They are responsible for the overall classroom, from lesson planning and execution to maintaining cleanliness and fostering strong parent partnerships.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
- Cleans Learning center for the purpose of maintaining a safe, orderly and sanitary environment.
- Confers with parents, children, staff, supervisor, etc. for the purposes of conveying and/or receiving information.
- Designs, coordinates, creates and implements age appropriate program activities (e.g. curriculum, environment, etc.) for the purposes of providing for the developmental growth of children in the Learning Center.
- Monitors children for the purposes of providing a safe and positive learning environment.
- Prepares snacks for the purposes of meeting daily nutritional requirements.
- Reports observations and incidents (e.g. accidents, fights, inappropriate social behavior, violation of rules, safety conditions, etc.) for the purposes of communicating information to appropriate instructional and/or administrative personnel.
- Assists other personnel as may be required for the purposes of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.
- Manages the Learning Center and is responsible for supervising all Learning Center employees.
- Schedules children.
- Works on and maintains the budget for the Learning Center.
- Ensures the Learning Center is in compliance with all relevant regulations.
- Other duties may be assigned.
AUTHORITY/SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Shall manage the employees in the Little Bear’s Learning Center.
QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
- Must be eighteen (18) years of age.
- Must have High School diploma or its equivalent.
- Must have an Associate’s Degree Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or a closely related field.
- OR; equivalent combination of education and experience totaling a minimum of two (2) years in a licensed childcare or early childhood services.
- Must have 1 /years of related experience in childcare with Supervisory experience in a licensed childcare or early childhood setting.
- Prefer related experience working with Native American children or within Tribal communities.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
- Shall possess a valid driver's license and be insurable by agencies insurance.
- Must provide or obtain the Servsafe Food Handlers certification upon hire and maintain during employment.
- Must provide or obtain CPR & First Aide certification within three (3) months of hire.
- Must pass a pre-employment drug test and physical.
- Must pass a pre-employment TB Test. Annual TB risk assessment and symptom review required for ongoing employment.
- Must have valid Mandated Reporter Training Certification within three (3) months of hire.
COMPUTER OPERATIONS
- Basic personal computer skills including electronic mail, word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, etc.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY:
- Ability to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Ability to operate standard office equipment (copier, fax, etc.).
- Must be able to work with American Indian people and be sensitive to their culture.
- Comply with all safety policies, practices and procedures. Report all unsafe activities to supervisor and/or Human Resources.
- Participate in proactive team efforts of Bear River Band of the Rohnerville Rancheria.
- Provide leadership to others through example and sharing of knowledge/skill.
- Must be able to work all shifts, weekends, holidays & special events as needed.
