About the Role:

The CDL Driver (Lowboy Heavy Equipment Hauler) is responsible for the safe and efficient transportation of heavy machinery and equipment across various locations within the United States. This role requires expertise in operating lowboy trailers designed to carry oversized and overweight loads, ensuring compliance with all federal and state transportation regulations. The driver will coordinate logistics, plan routes, and manage schedules to meet delivery deadlines while maintaining the integrity of the cargo. Attention to safety protocols and vehicle maintenance is critical to prevent accidents and minimize downtime. Ultimately, this position plays a vital role in supporting construction, industrial, and agricultural projects by delivering essential heavy equipment where it is needed most.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class A with appropriate endorsements for heavy equipment hauling.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience operating lowboy trailers or similar heavy equipment transport vehicles.
  • Clean driving record with no major violations or accidents in the past three years.
  • Knowledge of federal and state transportation regulations, including Hours of Service (HOS) rules.
  • Ability to pass pre-employment drug and alcohol screening and comply with ongoing testing requirements.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with oversize and overweight load permits and routing.
  • Familiarity with GPS navigation and electronic logging devices (ELDs).
  • Previous experience in heavy equipment or construction industry logistics.
  • Certification in load securement or specialized training related to heavy haul operations.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude for performing minor vehicle maintenance and troubleshooting.

Responsibilities:

  • Operate lowboy trailers to transport heavy equipment such as bulldozers, excavators, and other oversized machinery safely and efficiently.
  • Plan and follow optimal routes considering load size, weight restrictions, road conditions, and delivery deadlines.
  • Inspect vehicles and trailers before and after trips to ensure mechanical safety and compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations.
  • Secure loads properly using chains, binders, and other equipment to prevent shifting or damage during transit.
  • Maintain accurate logs of driving hours, vehicle inspections, and delivery records in accordance with federal and state regulations.
  • Communicate effectively with dispatchers, clients, and other stakeholders to coordinate pick-ups, deliveries, and resolve any issues that arise during transport.
  • Adhere strictly to all safety guidelines, traffic laws, and company policies to ensure personal and public safety.
