WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:
The ideal Risk Manager for Bear Creek is a guest service focused individual with the ability to help create a positive, memorable experience for our staff and guests through industry recognized standards and industry best practices. The successful team member will be responsible for planning, directing and administering the Company's general liability and property/casualty insurance programs from a pre and post-loss basis, which includes negotiation and settlement of claims, litigation, and coordination of loss information. This position will be an important member of the management team, providing leadership, support and expertise to our managers and front-line team. The Risk Manager will partner with departments across the resort to create and maintain a safe and enjoyable environment and protect the property, team members, and assets.
WHAT WE EXPECT FROM YOU:
- Promote and foster a culture of team member engagement and active communication throughout the resort.
- Develop and implement risk management policies, procedures, and programs to ensure the safety of guests and staff.
- Identify and analyze operational and compliance potential risks that could affect the organization; develop and implement actions to mitigate risk.
- Conduct regular risk assessments and audits to evaluate current risk exposure and recommend mitigation strategies.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure risk awareness and adherence to best practices.
- Monitor and analyze risk trends, providing timely reports and insights to senior management.
- - ski, mountain activity center, special events, and similar.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulatory requirements in all areas of the resort.
- Lead risk training programs to enhance risk awareness and preparedness across the organization.
- Direct, guide, and ensure timely investigations of all incidents, review investigative documents and provide guidance to the investigation; maintain records.
- Direct property and casualty litigation in conjunction with legal team and insurance companies in response to claims.
- Respond to Medallia and reported guest safety concerns as required.
- Ensure outside contractors and vendors have proper certificates of insurance.
- Manage department budget and relevant capital and assigned projects.
- Stay up to date with industry best practices and emerging risks to continuously improve risk management strategies.
- Other duties as assigned
WHAT WE EXPECT FROM ALL BCMR TEAM MEMBERS:
- Acknowledge all guests and respond promptly to their needs, however busy and whatever time of day.
- Ensure unresolved incidents are reported to Manager/Supervisor and partner to resolve to the best of your ability.
- Familiarity with all hotel services/features and local attractions/activities to respond to guest inquiries accurately
- Contribute to the team's success by accomplishing tasks and assisting with projects as needed
- Maintain knowledge and compliance with departmental policies, service procedures, and standards
- Work as a team member to ensure our guests have the best possible experience
- Understand emergency procedures and be able to apply them when necessary
- Report any incidents, property damage or injuries immediately to Manager/Supervisor
- Attend department meetings and training sessions as necessary
- Support Southern Management's Mission, Vision, and Values
- Comply with Bear Creek and Southern Management's policies and procedures
QUALIFICATIONS:
- 3-5 years demonstrated risk management experience; ski/snowboard industry experience preferred
- Familiarity with risk management best practices
- Ability to ski/snowboard all degrees of trail ratings preferred.
- Training through the National Ski Area Association preferred
- PA Certified Inspector for Amusement Rides preferred
- Associate's degree preferred
- OSHA 10 & 30 Certification preferred
- Availability during peak operating times, i.e.: nights, weekends, holidays and special events
JOB KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:
- Ability to deal effectively and diffuse difficult situations with a wide variety of company personnel, guests, clients and various outside firms and organizations.
- Solution oriented, with high integrity and confidentiality
- Organized and able to handle high-pressure situations
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Able to use independent judgement in decisions that influence risk and safety programs, , property and casualty claims processing and other financially and strategically sensitive situations.
- Familiarity with state and federal environmental standards, OSHA regulations, and ANSI B77.
- Excellent time management skills
- Technical knowledge and competency preferred in necessary systems and software:
- Microsoft Office, 1Risk, 1Risk Learning Management System, ULLR, SKIDATA, Yardi, Profit Sword, Avigilon
