Description
The role of the Heavy Equipment Operator is to operate various equipment to lift, load, and sort metals or other material in a safe and accurate manner.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Understands and observes all safety procedures and practices in order to prevent injuries or damage
- Operates traveling or stationary cranes and heavy equipment as needed to lift, move and position various materials and equipment; observes load hookup and determines safe load capacities
- Performs pre-start checks and maintains records
- Ensures that outside areas kept neat and clean and scraps and yard debris are appropriately recycled or disposed
- Reports safety hazards immediately
- Assists customers in unloading provides delivery status information, inventory availability and answers related questions
- Other responsibilities as assigned

Requirements
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Three to five years industry-related experience with tools and equipment is required
- Working knowledge of hazards and safety precautions common to equipment operations
- Have the ability to learn to recognize and classify metals such as brass, copper, stainless steel, aluminum and other metals
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 25 pounds frequently and on occasion up to 80 pounds
- Must be able to meet the physical demands of this position, with or without reasonable accommodation
- Must be able to stand, walk, lift, bend, squat, stoop, etc. for long periods of time
- Must be willing to learn and strictly follow all company safety procedures
- Ability to read, write and communicate in English to comprehend and follow written procedures, container labels and safety precautions
- Good attention to detail
- Ability to meet attendance schedule with dependability and consistency
