The Manager of Fitness Programming is responsible for the design, delivery, budgeting, marketing, administration, and evaluation of a wide range of high-quality health, fitness, sport, and recreation programs and services. This position ensures exceptional member satisfaction and retention while supervising specialized activity coordinators and other professional fitness staff.
Key Responsibilities
Program Development & Operations

Design, market, implement, and evaluate innovative fitness, recreation, and sports programming.

Manage and monitor fitness evaluations, exercise prescriptions, personal training, group exercise, aquatics, recreational activities, corporate wellness screenings, massage therapy, and registered dietitian services.

Collaborate with the Membership Office to align staff processes and enhance member intake and retention.

Develop and manage adult retention strategies across Beacon Health & Fitness (BHF), Pure Pilates, and Beacon Sports Performance (BSP).

Oversee the creation and execution of a quarterly schedule of special events, team incentives, and value-added programming.
Staff Management

Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate fitness staff, including specialists, personal trainers, group exercise instructors, and contract labor.

Manage staff scheduling, payroll, and prioritize assignments to ensure consistent delivery of high-quality services.

Conduct regular in-service training to ensure safety, quality control, and adherence to best practices.

Track and communicate retention metrics and lead initiatives aimed at improving performance and member engagement.
Strategic & Administrative Leadership

Assist in developing and managing budgets for fitness programming, personal training, and group fitness services.

Collaborate with leadership to establish and enforce consistent policies and procedures.

Maintain accurate records, gather and analyze member feedback, and implement changes to improve services.

Lead all Best Medicine, Wellness SurroundCare, and physician integration initiatives with DPT and BHF teams.

Coordinate safety trainings, incident tracking, and ensure compliance with Joint Commission standards.
Marketing & Outreach

Provide oversight to marketing efforts in partnership with the BHF marketing coordinator.

Deliver internal presentations and promote fitness programming across the Beacon Health System.
Other Duties

Support Beacon Health & Fitness’ Medical Fitness Association facility certification.

Perform other assignments or special projects as directed to enhance departmental effectiveness.

Qualifications
Education & Experience
-
Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science or related field required; Master’s degree preferred.

Minimum of five years of fitness industry experience, with at least three in a supervisory or management role.

Valid State driver’s license required.
Knowledge & Skills

Proven background in sales and marketing, ideally within the health and fitness industry.

Comprehensive knowledge of exercise science, group fitness, personal training, and wellness programming.
