Position Summary
Precise Mind is seeking a compassionate and clinically driven Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) to provide inpatient psychiatric care at Merit Health Hospital in Jackson, Mississippi. This role is responsible for conducting psychiatric evaluations, managing psychotropic medications, developing treatment plans, and collaborating with an interdisciplinary team to support patients experiencing acute mental health conditions.
The PMHNP will work closely with psychiatrists, nursing staff, therapists, social workers, and hospital leadership to ensure high-quality, evidence-based psychiatric care while promoting positive patient outcomes and continuity of care.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Care
- Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and assessments for adult inpatient psychiatric patients.
- Diagnose and treat a broad range of psychiatric conditions, including depression, anxiety disorders, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, trauma-related disorders, and substance use disorders.
- Develop, implement, and monitor individualized treatment plans.
- Prescribe and manage psychotropic medications in accordance with evidence-based practices.
- Assess patients for safety concerns, including suicide risk, self-harm, and behavioral instability.
- Participate in daily treatment team meetings and interdisciplinary rounds.
- Complete timely and accurate documentation within the electronic medical record (EMR).
- Provide patient and family education regarding diagnoses, treatment plans, and medication management.
Care Coordination & Collaboration
- Collaborate with psychiatrists, nursing staff, therapists, case managers, and hospital leadership to coordinate patient care.
- Participate in discharge planning and continuity of care initiatives.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and referral sources when appropriate.
Compliance & Quality
- Maintain compliance with hospital policies, state and federal regulations, accreditation standards, and prescribing requirements.
- Ensure documentation supports medical necessity and quality care standards.
- Participate in quality improvement and patient safety initiatives.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA regulations.
Qualifications
Required
- Master's or Doctoral degree from an accredited Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner program.
- Current and unrestricted Mississippi PMHNP license.
- Board Certification as a PMHNP (PMHNP-BC).
- Current DEA registration or ability to obtain prior to start date.
- Strong clinical knowledge of psychiatric diagnoses, psychopharmacology, and evidence-based treatment modalities.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience.
Preferred
- Prior inpatient psychiatry experience.
- Experience treating adult and geriatric psychiatric populations.
- Experience working within an acute psychiatric or hospital setting.
- Familiarity with behavioral health crisis intervention and stabilization.
