Mental Health Clinician Trainee

Beachside Assessment and Therapy Services

Forked River, NJ

Hybrid / In-Person depending on schedule and fit

W-2 | Fee-for-service | Part-time to start

Job description

Beachside Assessment and Therapy Services is seeking a thoughtful, motivated pre-licensed clinician to join the practice in a supervised training role.

This is a paid W-2 position intended for a clinician who has completed graduate or doctoral training and is now working toward independent licensure. The role is designed to provide meaningful outpatient experience in a private practice setting, with close supervision, professional mentorship, and room to grow over time.

This position is a good fit for someone who is clinically solid, professional, open to feedback, and genuinely interested in becoming a strong therapist — not just collecting hours, but developing real skill and confidence in outpatient practice.

Candidate profile

This role is intended for a New Jersey license-eligible clinician, such as:

  • Licensed Associate Counselor (LAC), or
  • Psychology postdoctoral permit holder / license-eligible postdoctoral psychologist

Applicants should have completed their graduate or doctoral training and be eligible to begin supervised post-graduate clinical work consistent with New Jersey requirements. Because supervision and billing rules vary by profession and payer, applicant eligibility will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

Responsibilities

  • Provide outpatient psychotherapy in a supervised private practice setting
  • Complete intake assessments, treatment planning, progress notes, and related clinical documentation in a timely and professional manner
  • Participate in regular clinical supervision and case consultation
  • Deliver services using evidence-based and developmentally appropriate interventions, with an emphasis on thoughtful case conceptualization and strong therapeutic work
  • Provide services via telehealth and/or in person depending on the needs of the practice and the clinician’s role
  • Develop competence in diagnosis, treatment planning, documentation, ethical decision-making, and outpatient practice standards
  • Potentially gain exposure to assessment-related work depending on background, training level, and practice needs

What I’m looking for

  • Strong interpersonal skills and professional maturity
  • Good clinical judgment for level of training
  • Reliability, follow-through, and solid writing skills
  • Openness to supervision and feedback
  • Interest in building genuine private practice experience
  • Comfort working with outpatient mental health concerns across a general practice population
  • Experience with children, adolescents, adults, or families is welcome, though candidate fit matters more than any one niche

Position structure

  • W-2 employee
  • Fee-for-service compensation
  • Part-time to start, with the potential to grow over time depending on fit, referrals, office logistics, and payer considerations
  • Individual supervision and mentoring built into the role
  • This is intended to be a meaningful training opportunity within a growing private practice, not a high-pressure agency-style productivity job

Hiring timeline

The practice expects to conduct interviews in May and June 2026, with the intention of having the position begin in August or September 2026, depending on the selected candidate’s availability and completion of any remaining graduate program obligations.

Any offer of employment would be contingent upon:

  • satisfactory references
  • successful completion of a background check
  • confirmation of eligibility for the relevant licensure/supervision track
  • any required board or committee approval for supervision before the start of clinical work, where applicable under New Jersey rules

Application requirements

Applicants should submit:

  • a resume or CV
  • a brief cover note describing training background, current licensure path, and interest in a private practice training role
  • at least 3 professional references, including at least 1 person who has worked with the applicant in their training program

To apply

Please submit your materials through really. Selected applicants will be contacted for an initial interview.
