Position Summary
The Director of Finance leads all financial operations for PSA BDP Business Unit Surface, and its Brokerage, serving as a strategic partner to executive leadership in a fast-paced, technology-enabled 3PL environment. This role is responsible for accounting, financial reporting, cash flow management, freight payment operations, and financial controls, ensuring compliance with GAAP and corporate finance policies.
This position plays a critical role in driving financial visibility, supporting operational decision-making, and scaling financial processes to support growth across managed transportation, brokerage, and integrated technology platforms. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in logistics financial flows, including carrier payments, customer funding, accruals, and margin management.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Leadership & Strategy
- Serve as a strategic finance partner to the Executive Director and leadership team, providing insight into profitability, cost control, and growth initiatives
- Lead financial planning processes, including annual budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis across Surface business units
- Establish and monitor key financial and operational KPIs to drive performance and accountability
- Deliver executive-level reporting and financial insights to corporate finance and senior leadership
Accounting & Financial Reporting
- Oversee the month-end close process, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with GAAP and corporate standards
- Prepare and review monthly financial statements for Surface and Brokerage operations
- Manage accruals, revenue recognition, and cost allocation across multiple business units
- Ensure accurate general ledger coding and alignment with ERP structures and reporting requirements
- Partner with corporate accounting on audits, internal controls, and financial governance
Cash Flow, Treasury & Funding Operations
- Own weekly cash flow forecasting and liquidity planning in coordination with Treasury
- Oversee customer funding processes, ensuring timely funding requests and collections
- Manage carrier payment cycles, including approval workflows, ACH/wire execution, and banking controls
- Monitor working capital performance, including DSO, DPO, and funding cycle efficiency
- Establish and maintain banking structures, templates, and controls for customer and carrier payments
Accounts Receivable & Payable Oversight
- Oversee customer invoicing, collections, and dispute resolution
- Monitor aging and proactively manage past due balances and funding delays
- Ensure accurate and timely processing of vendor and carrier payments
- Review and approve high-value or exception-based transactions
Systems, Technology & Process Improvement
- Lead finance integration efforts across key systems, including TMS, freight payment platforms, ERP, and data/reporting tools
- Drive automation of financial processes, including invoicing, accruals, and reporting
- Partner with IT and BI teams to enhance data integrity, reporting capabilities, and system integrations
- Identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency, scalability, and financial transparency
Compliance, Controls & Risk Management
- Develop and maintain accounting policies and internal controls aligned with GAAP and corporate standards
- Ensure compliance with industry regulations and financial requirements
- Support internal and external audits and maintain audit readiness
- Oversee financial risk management, including payment controls and fraud prevention
Business Unit & Brokerage Financial Oversight
- Oversee financial performance and reporting for both Surface and Brokerage operations
- Ensure accuracy of customer and carrier invoicing
- Partner with operations to resolve discrepancies and improve billing accuracy
- Drive improvements in invoice cycle times, funding timelines, and financial data integrity
- Manage carrier credit approvals and financial risk assessments
Team Leadership & Development
- Lead and develop finance team members across Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and Audit functions
- Establish clear roles, responsibilities, and performance expectations
- Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and cross-functional collaboration
- Support organizational design and scaling as the business grows
