Position Overview
The Underwriting Manager, Specialty Risk Solutions (“SRS”) is responsible for the underwriting, marketing, and portfolio management of Insurance Agent & Broker E&O (“AEO” and “IAB”) books of business. This role will also be involved in the reinsurance preparation and renewal process, serve as a key referral resource for AEO, IAB, and Cyber lines, and contribute to the growth and profitability of SRS lines. The Manager will support new product initiatives, develop and maintain broker and reinsurer relationships, and help drive profitable underwriting outcomes in alignment with corporate objectives.
The position will report to the Head of Specialty Risk Solutions Underwriting.
Essential Elements
Underwriting & Portfolio Management
- Review, analyze, and underwrite AEO affinity programs and IAB accounts; act as a referral underwriter for SMB Cyber Liability and IAB submissions in accordance with underwriting guidelines, filed rates, and risk appetite.
- Evaluate and respond to underwriting submissions, produce quotes, and issue binders and endorsements in a timely and accurate manner.
- Maintain well-organized underwriting files, ensuring thorough documentation and clear audit trails.
- Oversee day-to-day management of assigned books, including retention strategy, rate review, exposure monitoring, and account stewardship.
- Analyze underwriting, exposure, and loss data to identify trends, performance drivers, concentrations, and emerging risks across the portfolio.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and ad hoc reports for internal stakeholders, senior leadership, and reinsurance partners, ensuring accuracy and actionable insights.
- Collaborate with actuarial, claims, and finance teams to validate data, interpret results, and translate findings into underwriting and portfolio strategy adjustments.
Reinsurance Preparation & Renewal Support
- Gather, validate, and prepare exposure data, loss runs, actuarial information, and supporting materials required for reinsurance renewals.
- Assist in renewal strategy, reinsurer meetings, and the placement process in collaboration with the Head of SRS Underwriting and reinsurance brokers.
- Review reinsurance contract wording and submissions to ensure accuracy, compliance, and alignment with internal underwriting guidelines.
- Serve as a liaison with reinsurance intermediaries, reinsurers, and internal stakeholders on treaty and facultative matters.
Relationship Development & Market Engagement
- Develop, strengthen, and maintain productive relationships with retail and wholesale brokers, reinsurance intermediaries, and underwriting partners (MGA/Us).
- Represent the company at industry functions, conferences, and broker meetings, contributing to the visibility and reputation of the SRS division.
- Collaborate closely with legal, claims, actuarial, product development, compliance, and other internal teams to support underwriting, portfolio, and broader SRS and corporate goals.
Contract & Compliance Oversight
- Review insurance and reinsurance contracts for accuracy, clarity, and adherence to approved terms and conditions.
- Ensure all contractual commitments comply with corporate standards and regulatory requirements.
- Provide guidance on manuscript wording, endorsements, and coverage modifications.
New Business & Product Development
- Support the design, development, and launch of new Specialty Risk Segment liability products.
- Contribute market intelligence, competitive insights, and emerging risk analysis to refine coverage offerings and pricing models.
- Evaluate new business opportunities to drive growth across the specialty risk portfolio.
Requirements
Education & Certifications
- Bachelor’s degree in business, risk management, finance, or related field; or equivalent relevant experience required.
- Industry credentials (CPCU, RPLU, ARM) preferred but not required.
Experience
- Minimum 5 years of underwriting experience in E&O, D&O, and/or Cyber Liability lines.
- Demonstrated success in building and managing strong broker relationships and insurance book growth.
- Experience working with reinsurance brokers or reinsurers—treaty and facultative—strongly preferred.
- Familiarity with underwriting referrals, portfolio management, exposure evaluation, and coverage analysis required.
- Understanding of contract wording, legal and regulatory frameworks, financial analysis, actuarial concepts, accounting principles, claims processes, and administrative workflows.

Salary : $125,000 - $155,000
