BCR Environmental is seeking an experienced Senior Project Manager to take ownership of complex, multimillion-dollar engineered systems that help municipalities and industrial customers convert waste streams into valuable resources. Position Summary
The Senior Project Manager is responsible for the successful execution of BCR’s largest and most complex engineered capital equipment projects from contract award through final commissioning and closeout.
Serving as the primary point of contact for customers, this role provides strategic leadership over project planning, execution, commercial performance, project profitability, and customer satisfaction.
The Senior Project Manager independently manages multiple concurrent projects with significant technical and financial complexity. This individual collaborates cross-functionally with Applications Engineering, Sales, Design Engineering, Procurement, Finance, Manufacturing, Field Service, and external vendors and subcontractors to ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with contractual requirements.
This role also serves as a subject matter expert in project execution practices by mentoring project team members and helping establish best practices, processes, and tools that improve overall project performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the execution of large, complex capital equipment projects from project kickoff through final customer acceptance and warranty transition.
- Serve as the primary customer interface and develop strong relationships with customer stakeholders, contractors, subcontractors, and suppliers.
- Develop and maintain detailed project execution plans, schedules, resource plans, and project milestones using Microsoft Project or client-preferred project management tools.
- Establish project governance, communication plans, and reporting structures to ensure alignment between internal teams and external stakeholders.
- Lead project meetings, provide executive-level status updates, identify risks and mitigation strategies, and drive accountability for project deliverables.
- Maintain ownership of project scope, schedule, budget, and profitability while proactively identifying and managing commercial risks and opportunities.
- Manage project change orders, contractual obligations, and scope modifications to protect project margins and maintain customer satisfaction.
- Partner closely with Finance to manage project forecasting, revenue recognition support, cash flow projections, invoicing milestones, and profitability reporting.
- Coordinate activities across Engineering, Procurement, Manufacturing, Field Service, and third-party suppliers to ensure successful project execution.
- Oversee equipment submittals, drawing packages, O&M manuals, regulatory documentation, and final project deliverables.
- Conduct periodic site visits to monitor installation progress, evaluate contractor performance, identify field issues, and resolve project challenges.
- Support startup and commissioning activities, including extended work hours or temporary on-call support during critical project phases.
- Identify opportunities to improve project management standards, processes, templates, and performance metrics across the organization.
- Mentor Project Managers and project team members on effective project execution practices.
- Support project pursuit activities by contributing execution strategies, schedules, risk assessments, and commercial insights during the proposal phase.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business, or a related technical discipline required; advanced degree preferred.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification strongly preferred.
- 10 years of experience managing complex engineered capital equipment projects.
- Demonstrated success managing projects with significant budgets, multiple stakeholders, and technically complex deliverables.
- Strong knowledge of project management methodologies, including scheduling, risk management, change management, and financial controls.
- Experience managing customer relationships and leading discussions related to schedule, scope, cost, and project execution.
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Project and the Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and lead cross-functional teams without direct authority.
- Willingness and ability to travel up to 25% of the time.
- Ability to support startup and commissioning activities requiring extended hours or temporary on-call availability.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in the municipal or industrial water/wastewater treatment industry.
- Experience managing projects involving process equipment, thermal systems, chemical processing, environmental systems, or similar industrial technologies.
- Experience managing EPC, design-build, or complex equipment supply projects.
- Familiarity with contract management, subcontractor administration, and commercial project controls.
- Experience implementing project management best practices, templates, and continuous improvement initiatives.
