What are the responsibilities and job description for the Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist position at BCForward?
We are seeking an Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist to join our team at the Eden Prairie facility. This role supports environmental, health, and safety objectives through compliance, auditing and training, incident management and prevention, program management, cultural leadership, and continuous improvement. Reporting to the EHS Supervisor, the specialist works Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and collaborates closely with the VP Maintenance & Engineer.
Responsibilities
- Assist in plant-wide compliance with federal, state, and local environmental laws and regulations.
- Maintain all EHS training documentation per company and regulatory standards; organize training sources and records.
- Develop and deliver training for all shifts on Environmental, Health, and Safety program topics.
- Train waste handlers on proper handling, labeling, and storage of waste; maintain and update SOPs for waste handling.
- Annually host Hazardous Materials & Waste Management and Compliance training for personnel involved in shipping waste.
- Serve as a resource on environmentally cautious handling, transportation, and storage of chemicals at the Eden Prairie site.
- Coordinate with distributors, contractors, and consultants to improve the company’s environmental impact and compliance.
- Provide coaching and training to employees on environmental compliance; help develop and facilitate environmental training programs.
- Coordinate EHS audits and inspections and ensure timely completion of follow-up actions.
- Develop knowledge of operations, site-specific safety and environmental issues, regulations, and company practices.
- Handle all chemical and component waste for the Eden Prairie site; maintain accurate logs and documentation, including hazardous BOL records.
- Practice safe working techniques and safe chemical handling; ensure regulatory inspections are coordinated and deficiencies corrected.
- Assist with maintaining Site Preparedness and Emergency Plans and Procedures.
Required Qualifications
- Knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental and safety regulations.
- Experience developing and delivering EHS training across shifts.
- Ability to coordinate audits, inspections, and corrective actions with detailed documentation.
- Competence in hazardous materials handling, waste management, and recordkeeping.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in incident management, prevention initiatives, and EHS program leadership.
- Background collaborating with external partners to drive environmental performance improvements.
