JOB SUMMARY
The Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing a variety of maintenance and repair tasks to ensure smooth operation and upkeep the farm. This includes tasks related to welding, painting, plumbing, tiling, sheetrock, and general facility maintenance. The role requires a proactive approach to identifying and addressing maintenance needs, ensuring a safe and well-maintained environment for both staff and animals.
Key Responsibilities
General Maintenance:
- Perform routine inspections of farm facilities and equipment.
- Identify and address maintenance issues promptly to prevent any disruption of operations.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities and repairs.
Welding:
- Perform welding tasks to repair or fabricate metal structures and equipment.
- Ensure all welding work complies with safety standards and regulations.
- Maintain welding tools and equipment in good working order.
Painting:
- Prepare surfaces for painting by scraping, sanding, and cleaning as needed.
- Apply paint, varnish, or other finishes to various surfaces using brushes, rollers, or sprayers.
- Ensure painted surfaces are finished to a high standard and properly maintained.
Plumbing:
- Install, repair, and maintain plumbing systems, including pipes, fixtures, and water supply lines.
- Identify and fix leaks, clogs, or other plumbing issues promptly.
- Ensure all plumbing work complies with local codes and standards.
Tiling:
- Install and repair tile surfaces, including floors, walls, and countertops.
- Prepare surfaces by cleaning and leveling to ensure proper tile adhesion.
- Grout and seal tiles to ensure durability and aesthetics.
Sheetrock:
- Install, repair, and finish drywall in various areas of the facility.
- Patch holes, cracks, and other damage to drywall surfaces.
- Apply tape, mud, and texture to achieve a smooth finish ready for painting.
Equipment and Tools Maintenance:
- Maintain and repair farm equipment and tools to ensure they are in good working condition.
- Perform routine maintenance tasks on equipment as needed.
Safety and Compliance:
- Follow all safety protocols and guidelines to ensure a safe working environment.
- Use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
- Report any safety hazards or incidents to the Maintenance Supervisor/Manager.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical training or certifications in relevant maintenance fields preferred.
- Proven experience in welding, painting, plumbing, tiling, and sheetrock.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills.
- Physical stamina and ability to perform manual labor, including lifting heavy objects (50 and more) and working in various environmental conditions.
- Good communication skills and the ability to follow instructions.
Working Conditions:
- Work is performed in both indoor and outdoor environments, including exposure to varying weather conditions.
- Must be comfortable working around animals and in a farm setting.
- May require working evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
