BBSI is hiring on behalf of a well-established civil construction company specializing in underground infrastructure projects across Southern California.
We are seeking a Field Project Engineer with 5–10 years of experience in heavy civil and underground construction. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in both the field and office, with strong technical knowledge, project coordination skills, and a solid understanding of cost control and project financials.
Key Responsibilities
- Support Superintendents and Foremen with day-to-day field operations
- Manage and track RFIs, submittals, and change orders
- Interpret and work from construction drawings, plans, and specifications
- Assist with project scheduling, coordination, and execution
- Review and analyze subcontractor and vendor proposals/quotes
- Verify invoices and project costs to ensure accuracy and alignment with budget
- Identify cost-saving opportunities and support overall project profitability
- Act as a liaison between field teams, project management, and office staff
- Proactively identify issues and help drive timely resolutions on active job sites
Qualifications
- 5–10 years of experience in heavy civil / underground construction
- Strong field experience (this is not a desk-only role)
- Proficient in managing RFIs, submittals, and change orders
- Solid understanding of project cost control and financial tracking
- Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, and technical documents
- Experience working with subcontractors and vendors
- Ability to operate effectively in both field and office environments
- Civil or Mechanical Engineering background preferred
